Ah, journalists are so easily bought. David Kirkpatrick of Fortune was pathetically grateful for some fresh-baked peanut-butter cookies, and he's written a gushing piece about the grocery store that supplied them. FreshDirect is another attempt at the online grocery model, and it may just work. The service only covers the Upper East Side of Manhattan at the moment, but it's hitting the Upper West Side in January, and Downtown in March. It's 1999, all over again.
