The Defamer correspondent on Truly Bad Movies Being Passed Off As Camp By Gay-Savvy Marketers sends us a pic and a small dispatch from last night's "interactive screening" of Showgirls at the Vista:

If you didn't already know that Showgirls has taken on something of a new life in the gay community, you would have figured out the event's target audience in about ten seconds standing in line for the screening. While there was a severe shortage of stars (the biggest name there probably was Mary Carey, the porn star that recently ran for governor). there was no shortage of muscle-bound men hired to stand on the red carpet with their shirts off. They briefly had a stripper on a stripper pole, but she stomped off after about ten minutes she left because no one was paying attention to her. A drag queen emceed the red carpet and ran through the "instructions" for watching the movie and some pre-movie games (ie, guys taking off shirts and/or dancing for a free DVD copy), but the crowd seemed to get into it the hooting and shouting at the screen. The whole thing felt totally forced. The movie's not camp, it's just crap, no matter how many times you click your little clicker every time Nomi smacks someone.
