In this week's edition: Cynthia Nixon gets artsy, Pamela Anderson works the bathroom at the Palace, Kelly Ripa looks very LA, Matt Dillon ogles someone's ass, Parker Posey walks her own dog, Michael Musto eats with rouged mystery lady, Vincent Gallo stares at people, Lizzie Grubman looks skanky, Salman Rushdie eats at Balthazar, The Cure hits the Delancey with members of Muse and Interpol, Chloe Sevigny and Clea Duvall sweat at the Curiosa festival, Steve Van Zandt won't take off his scarves, Bono shakes it at P.S.1, Ty Pennington works out, and the elusive "lost hipsters" invade Long Island City.
· ·Saw Pamela Anderson in the bathroom of the Palace Hotel @ 50th and Madison last night. We were having dinner in Le Cirque, she was apparently hanging out in the restaurant's bar. Wearing pink dress, big touseled blonde hair, breasts on display, etc. Looked almost like an impersonater of herself, but actually prettier and less weird in person. I spotted her in the ladies room with a female companinion (red hair, dressed all in black, VERY heavy, perhaps to set off ms. anderson's figure all the more?) and was behind her going up the stairs, where she got a bit confused about which room to enter. My friend then found her in the bar/lounge area, where she was apparently saying goodbye to friends and well-wishers in the company of a tall and beefy cowboy-dressed type who was maneuvering her out the door — guesses as to boyfriend/bodyguard/handler identity of said man went unconfirmed.
· We were sitting on the 'power bench' in the atrium of the Met on the hot saturday afternoon (2:30ish) and in walks Cynthia Nixon - two kids and a nanny in tow. She was looking as sweaty and as tired as everyone else in the crowd, but better stylin' dressed in all black... kids did not look as happy as she did, which is surprising since the air conditioning was on high. She kept the nanny and kids (one stroller, one walking) waiting as tickets were purchase. New hair color much lighter than Miranda's highlighted red.
· I saw Kelly Ripa and family at the corner of Crosby & Mercer around 6 this evening. She and her husband are both very tiny, and looked very LA. She was wearing big clear sunglasses and a white sparkly tank top (not a very "mom" look, Reg), and the kids were all really cute. She and her husband were each pushing a carriage as all 3 kids were still in strollers, even though one of them looked around 5 which seems kind of old for that? Overall a really cute family stroll.
· i saw matt dillon last night (8/2) somewhere in the low 50's on second avenue. not as tall as i expected. he was walking quickly with another man and turned his head completely to check out some woman's ass after she walked by. i have a friend that dated him, whom he also ogled completely before he approached her.
· I saw Parker Posey (AGAIN, 2nd time in a month) walking up 4th Ave at 12th Street w/ her little white doggy. She was wearing a sundress, wedge heeled sandals, & no make-up. Parker, I mean. The dog was naked. Also, I see Michael Musto about 3 times a week on Second Avenue in the East Village, always eating lunch (often at Virage) with an older woman who sports a severe red bob and two red circles of rouge on her cheeks. Who is this woman? His mummy?
· I thought I might as well share a Vincent Gallo sighting we had last Saturday. We were sitting down at Florent to enjoy an evening of Fischer, rillettes and mussels, privately laughing over some recently acquired LP s from my friend s collection circa 1985, which she had brought to NYC via her parent s house in Boston. As we pulled out the /Revenge of the Nerds/ soundtrack, we spotted Mr. Vincent Gallo eyeing up our record with quite some amusement. We re actually working on a Broadway musical adaptation of /Revenge of the Nerds/, and now plan to offer the part of Gilbert Lowell (originally played by Anthony Edwards) to Vincent Gallo. And clearly, Chlo Sevigny, who already has a penchant for nerdy hiked-up short shorts and suspenders, will make an excellent Judy, Gilbert s nerdy girlfriend.
And, if you care about his culinary choices, he had a mixed greens salad with goat cheese.
· Friday, 7/30, mid-afternoon saw Lizzie Grubman flitting around the Tourneau watch place on 57th looking scanky but being fawned all over. 8/1 around 1:30 pm, an abstemious Salman Rushdie dining with his family at Balthazar. No one else seemed to notice them.
· Saw the cure's robert smith + the rest of the band, Muse and Interpol hanging out at the Delancy Street Lounge on Saturday night. Chloe Sevigny and Clea Duvall @ Curiosa on saturday.
· saw Little Stevie [Steve Van Zandt] in full gypsy scarf regalia on the roof bar of the Maritime Hotel at 12-1 on Saturday night. He was mellow, laughing with a larger guy (would he actually have security??) traversing the catwalk between the "VIP" section (a total of 15 bored looking people were there...) toward the hopping main bar. No sign of any other E-Streeters or Sopranos people (except maybe the big guy with him), sadly.
· You've likely already been inundated with accounts of this sighting, but Bono was at P.S.1 this weekend and hung out in the crowd for quite a while during the Honey Dijon and Scissor Sisters sets. He seemed to enjoy the Sisters' performance even though they had serious sound problems (I guess the Sisters weren't down with hauling their asses out to L.I.C. for a sound check at noon before the whole thing started).
· Seen at the sports club la- rockefeller center- ty pennington from trading spaces, sitting in the steam room. Unfortunately, reading the sports section, and not even glancing at any other guys. Still, he was v.v. hot.
· Oh, the chuckle I had walking in my Sunnyside 'hood today, watching all the hipsters in their $45 "vintage" t-shirts (simultaneously sporting their $95 haircuts) asking me "Where's 46th ROAD??" Well not at the 46th STREET 7 stop, that's for sure you misguided nitwits. There were packs of them, all wondering where PS 1 was....turns out there were bunches of locationally challended trendy Wendys in Sunnyside, not Long Island City — and the band played on...
