In Saturday's NYT, hack auteur nonpareil Brett Ratner admits that he didn't really know what he was doing with the just-released "one last heist" flick After the Sunset until he got into the editing room. Still, he managed to fool at least one cast member into thinking he wasn't totally lost:

If Mr. Ratner had a difficult time of it, his cast could not tell. "His level of pure energy and adrenaline is unbelievable," [star Woody] Harrelson said. "You would think he was on drugs - good drugs."

Well, that would explain it. But Ratner dismisses this simple reason for his directorial technique by pointing out "that he does not drink or do drugs." It's so refreshing to find someone in Hollywood who can ruin movies on the strength of his natural gifts alone.
