More Tsunami Relief: Charity Gets Exclusive, Remains Fabulous
We knew tsunami relief would be hot, so Gawker Media planned ahead and sent three cases of Dos Equis and our old Big Mouth Billy Bass to Banda Aceh. We felt that we were doing the best we could to help out, but now we're both shamed and upstaged by the New York's nightlife overlords. They're just so pretty, dammit, and we can't compete:
"We all wanted to do something," says NA club owner Noel Ashman. "But the thing with Petra really inspired us to do it."
Ashman is right. Helping the tsunami victims is important, but helping supermodel Petra Nemcova, who was also injured in the disaster, is really important. How can our city's trendsetters help? Oh, we know! We know! How about throwing a party?
So tonight, along with Damon Dash, DJ/scenester Samantha Ronson and a gaggle of "special-guest-host supermodels," Ashman is throwing a private party at NA to benefit UNICEF - Nemcova's favorite non-profit.
We knew a RonsonBot would figure into this equation. Could Samantha be using her as-yet-unidentified powers for good instead of evil? And are the luminaries of New York nightlife finally going to work with the plebeians for a common cause? Can we lend a hand?
"I have a huge list of 85,000 names," says Ashman, whose elite, invite-only guest list of about 700 people is comprised of people who know Nemcova. They'll bid on clothes from Chaiken, Yellow Fever and Proenza Schouler, as well as front-row seats to their Fashion Week shows.
