A Gawker operative, while trolling the Strand bookstore's shelves for gently used review copies, picked up Steven Gaines' The Sky's The Limit for a mere 97 cents. A truly fortuitous bargain, since it the copy once belonged to Observer editor Peter Kaplan. Before selling off the tome to the Strand, it seems that Kaplan forgot to remove the note inside from Gaines himself.

We could just write this off as Kaplan being admirably thrifty, but our inner crackpot wants to nonsensically announce this as some sort of shoestring guerrilla marketing campaign for the Observer. We know they're on a budget over there.
