We have always thought that bike messengers were the undead, like in Death Becomes Her or even Weekend At Bernie's. They flip in and out of traffic so fast, they have been impaled on a few side mirrors. We know they're good at avoiding collisions; we just think they must be made of rubber too.

Anyway, they apparently have a competitive organization for bike messengers, and not surprisingly, when they're not wearing those helmets, they like The Warriors if all the gangs were sponsored by Pepsi. They refer to their messenger work as their "training," and they have events all around the world. As bike couriers, they make about 100 bucks a day. Which, you know, doesn't pay for health insurance, thought it does pay for "cool" wraparound sunglasses. They also confirm something we've always suspected.

Mr. Bolger has attached a hip flask to his bike. "In the winter, you put your Schnapps in there," he explained.

Yep. We do that too.—WL
