A two-story building collapsed at the corner of Broadway and 100th Street this morning.

Formerly home to a Gristede's supermarket, the building was being prepared for demolition so high-rise condos could be built. Area residents object to this latest manifestation of the upper Upper West Side's yuppification, and just last night had held a rally to protest the new building.

Several people were briefly trapped in the rubble, but everyone now appears to be OK — having learned their lesson about what can happen in this town to those who dare upset the mighty gods of redevelopment.
