Movie Pirate Or Teen Hero?
How many times does the MPAA have to tell us to respect copyrights? Another camcorder-wielding, one-man piracy sleeper cell has been accused of trying to destabilize the entertainment industry, but his greatest crime might be his horrible taste:
Curtis Salisbury, 19, of St. Charles was accused of copying Universal Pictures' "The Perfect Man" and Columbia Pictures' "Bewitched" and distributing the movies over the Internet, the U.S. attorney's office in San Francisco said. The indictment Wednesday in San Jose is part of a crackdown on online piracy, officials said.
There's got to be an angle we're missing, because could anyone be stupid enough to risk jail time and/or fines for making blurry copies of Bewitched and a Hilary Duff vehicle? Perhaps the youngster was providing a noble service to closeted teens in NorCal, who couldn't dare publicly indulge their thirst for kitschy crap without risking an outing at the local multiplex.
