The NY Times has some more details the Brad Garrett Everybody Loves Raymond spinoff being planned, hinting at the super-secret, mind-blowing plot twist that may allow Ray's dopey brother to live on for an additional thirteen-episode commitment:

Asked about the premise of the new series, Mr. Garrett said that "they don't want me to get into it: but that his character, Robert - who is forever tussling with Raymond for his parents' affections - would be undergoing "major logistical, geographical changes."

"He will be leaving the state," Mr. Garrett said.

Sounds like a hit! The beloved-semiretarded-sitcom-character-moving-away- from-his-"family"-to-find-his-own-way-in-the-world formula has been essential to NBC's strategy of maintaining their deathgrip on fourth place, and it should do wonders for CBS as well. If CBS really wants to think outside the box, maybe they can work something out with their rival network and have Robert crash on Joey's couch during sweeps.
