'Miss Seventeen': A Managing Editor Is Just a Warden of Another Sort
A media commentator who's much cleverer and better-known than we are confessed by email earlier today his fondness for Miss Seventeen. He knows it's wrong, he says, but he's just too caught up in one contestant's story:
I mean, this one girl, both of her parents are in jail! And her dad accidentally killed someone by supplying that person with drugs! And now this gal with the incarcerated parents and drug-dealer-murderer dad just wants an internship at Seventeen! Holy fuck, you know?
Cleverer media commentator is rooting for this girl, and now we're entranced by the possibility she could win. Because we can just imagine how well she'll fit with all the other magland interns:
Friday Before Memorial Day in Hearst Building
A play in one act.
Intern 1: What are you guys doing for the long weekend?
Intern 2: I guess I'm going to our place in Amagansett.
Intern 1: Oh, we got to Montauk. We should totally hang out.
Intern 2: Yeah, totally. What about you, Madison? Where do you summer?
Intern 3: We go to the Vineyard. But, God, the ride out to Teterboro is sooo terrible on summer Fridays.
Intern 1: Um, yeah. The LIE sucks, too, but you should come out to the island for July 4. Jerry and Judy's is so much fun.
Intern 2: You should come, too, Tiffani. Will you be around? Where's your parents' place?
Intern 4: My parents are in jail.
The curtain falls.
