Saturday, 11/26: Saw Hillary & Chelsea Clinton and Chelsea s new boyfriend at Movin Out (Billy Joel musical). Before the play started, Louie Louie was playing, and Hillary was bobbing her head which was coiffed very nicely, great highlights to the song. Pretty wild, huh? Chelsea was very blond, but frankly, her hair was terrible. Feels shitty to say that, though, because she seems like a good kid, gosh darn it, and her dad was a superb President (not to mention #2 on my list of Old Men I d Like to Bang).
Yesterday - the 22nd I stopped by a favorite watering hole in my old Soho neighborhood around 5:30 and saw a friend drinking suds with Jude Law and Sienna Miller. Considering this bar has a lot of attitude and everyone considers themselves a rock star not much attention was paid. This is actually the reason why so many celebrities stop by my various locales - to be low-key. Jude looked like he just came off Cold Mountain and Sienna was sporting a very short hair cut - she's rather petite but attractive.
Tuesday 11/22, Hillary Swank sat directly behind me at the U2 show in the Garden. When it was brought to my attention that she was there, I did what all life-long New Yorkers do and made a quick scan to verify the sighting, then left it at that. My companions on the other hand (all non-Nyers) practically gave themselves whiplash throughout the show trying to check her out. No class. I didn't see who she was with. But damn, homegirl has some cheekbones. On another note, great show, but Bono's starting to have the old middle-aged man thick-n-thin (thick in the middle and thin on top). Oh, and Bono gave Ms. Swank a big shout-out for joining up with whatever save-the-world charitable venture he's got going these days.
While hanging out at the Cupping Room in Soho Saturday afternoon (11/19) saw Ryan Reynolds and Alanis Morissette on their way out. Ryan was much taller than expected, as he loomed a good head above the rest of the patrons in the bar. He's better looking in person and is back to sporting the beard. He had a good clutch on Alanis' hand, guiding her through the crowd toward the exit. Alanis, on the other hand appeared much shorter than expected (I hear she's supposed to be 5'4" but she seemed smaller), and it was hard to see her face as she kept her tousled hair over it (as protection from all the people?)
Spotted Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett splitting the bill with a few others at Frank in the East Village. She's shorter than expected and adorable. He's taller and hotter than expected. I caught them smooching on their way out, so I guess that confirms the rumors on their status....
Last weekend, had a double Iman sighting... the first was saturday when she was checking out her book ("The Beauty of Color") display in the window of the McNally Robinson bookstore on Prince and Mulberry. Then saw her and David Bowie the following day waking out of "Walk The Line" in Union Square. She is beautiful, he is short - but they were both well-covered so it was hard to get a solid look.
Okay, so I m at Dean and Deluca loading up on Thanksgiving provisions (doesn t ANYONE carry cake flour anymore?), when I abruptly turn around and see this employee laughing and smiling at someone. Well, that someone happened to be Willem Dafoe, laughing and smiling back at her, in long black down jacket. Surprisingly ****hott**** and less midget-like than I d heard. Seriously, this guy is all kinds of handsome! Had to excuse myself lest I follow him around and cause people to slip on my drool puddles. Film does not do this man justice.
Nov. 25th — Being my usual polite self, I held open the door of the men's restroom on the third floor of Bergdorf Goodman for a shaggy-haired gentleman dressed in gray and black. He shot me a grateful look and said thanks in a distinctive British accent. Great voice. It made me look a little closer because I definitely recognized it. It was Snape himself, Alan Rickman. Wanted to ask him why he'd dump sweet little Emma Thompson in Love Actually, but thought better of it. The man looks good, if a little weathered. He looked like he was in a hurry and bypassed the urinals. Maybe too much turkey? Is that too much information?
Saturday, 11/26: Saw Paris (sans rabid monkey) & Nicky Hilton at Nobu. Paris was sporting the crap ponytail with dumb little barrettes, but her catchiest accessory was the Ted Kaczynski-esque Stavros Niarchos. I think his barfing pillowfighting scapegoat doppelganger was there too, and there were a couple other friends. Nicky looked pretty good, much as I hate to say it, and the tiny Kevin Connolly seemed to be enjoying her.
Sunday, November 27th was a big celeb sighting day in Manhattan. First, I saw Rudy Giuliani greeting people before going into Fred s at Barney s and then I saw Frederic Fekkai and his fianc Shirin von Wulffen checking out wedding invitations at the Mrs. John L. Strong dept also in Barney s. They said they are getting married over Memorial Day. Later, I saw Selma Blair and her husband, Ahmet Zappa, walking on 57th Street near 6th Avenue. They may have been at Bergdorf s but they didn t have any shopping bags. She was wearing all black including a black knit hat on a not that cold day. The only reason I noticed her was because she had the new taupe colored Marc Jacobs quilted handbag. Maybe she was tired, because she seemed kind of sullen. Ahmet went to a street vendor and bought her a diet coke. Hope it perked her up.
Yesterday on Thanksgiving (11/24) I spotted Rosie O'Donnell sans Kelly Carpenter having Thanksgiving dinner at Equus Restaurant at The Castle at Tarrytown. She was there with what appeared to be her brother and his wife, along with about 6-7 young children. As this was an actual Castle we were sitting in the Tapestry room and she was in another room out of our view. However, as we were leaving her party was also exiting the restaurant. This was a formal setting with men in jackets and ties and women dressed their best as well. Rosie comes out and is wearing dark pants, a long sleeve blue turtleneck and a BRIGHT YELLOW fleece vest! Oh, and yes, her head is gigantic.
Sighting: Candice Bergen walking a HUGE fluffy white dog down Madison Avenue today, Monday, Nov. 28. The dog definitely wanted to go east, while his dog-Mom wanted to walk south. The dog is really cute and goofy.
Last night, 11/14 went to Dos Caminos. Walked by Mike Meyers would looked right at me (notice me, notice me) then looked away. Small, tinier then expected.
Rob Schneider showed up to eat outside while we were eating. What is up with the forehead? Definitely a weird head thing going on. Cracking up his waiter, though.
I saw Hayden Christensen filming scenes for a movie called "Awake" in front of the entrance to Fordham University at 60th St. and 9th Ave. He's wearing blue hospital scrubs. One of my co-workers and I can't decide if he's hot or if he looks mentally
challenged. But he definitely looks better than he looked in "Shattered Glass" or "Revenge of the Shit" um, I mean "Sith."
Ralph Finnes, in a lovely British accent, ordering a Protein Rasberry Pizzaz at the Jamba Juice in Soho on Black Friday.
Then this past Saturday, we spotted Kevin Connolly heading out of the Mercer Hotel on mercer. He was super short, wearing little Levis and a puffy North Face jacket. On that same block, was Scott Speedman. Not sure if he looked especially good, post the Kevin Connolly-gawk, but he was wearing a red hoodie over a blazer and couldn't have looked hotter.
11/11 Nobu-sat in the back and in walks Jesse L Martin, Law and Order /Rent guy. All smiley, nice, quite...cute. Congratulated him at end of meal and he was almost normal.
Last night I was one of those crazies who went to see the 12:01 showing of Rent. Which was awesome. And guess who came to sit with their fans, Anthony Rapp (who plays Mark) and Tracie Thoms (who plays Joanne). It was pretty sweet, and they stayed after to take pictures with people.
My sightings don't have the fagtastic cache of many but I hope this is good enough: I'm in spring lounge on spring & mulberry. James friggin Cameron with what looks like wife and kids on fri night after thxgiv... I'm dying to tell him his synth soundtrack for the first terminator rules!
On my way into the Loews Lincoln Square theater late Saturday afternoon, my friends and I spotted Bernadette Peters (Heartbeeps). We only caught a brief glimpse of her, but quickly surmised that she had just seen a matinee of "Just Friends" and was sobbing uncontrollably.
Saw Bjork and Matthew Barney (holding their adorable daughter!) walking down Broadway in Soho last night around 7 pm. Bjork was wearing a giant coat, fuschia tights, and gold pumps.
Monday 11/28: Saw Natalie Maines from the Dixie Chicks eating with her family and a few friends at the Half King. She was much thinner than I would ve thought, and her kids & husband were absolutely adorable. The kids had cute light-up Christmas plush polar bears, and were really well behaved.
11/25 friday nite, was waiting for the host to seat us at a table at cain when i saw Aidan Quinn go inside the club. only caught a quick glimpse, but i'm pretty positive it was him. not very tall which was expected, but those blue eyes, they could be spotted from a mile away. had the pleasure of soaking in his hotness while my friends complained they didn't see him. ha.
Saw James Lipton brunching at SQC on the UWS on Sunday. He was dressed in a sweatshirt and hat and was holding hands with a strangely sunglassed woman. He had the banana pancakes.
Saw Chazz Palminteri on Saturday at the Imax Theater in Lincoln Square. He walked into the lobby with three kids at about 530PM - the rest of us were already online for the 6:30 PM showing of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He checked out the overpriced concession stand, then the mad hatters on the Fandango line, and then walked out. Not many people noticed or made a fuss.
Sunday, 11/27 I'm dodging slow-walking, overweight tourists on Spring Street in SoHo. As I pass by Balthazar, who cruises past me but David Blaine and some short, dark, thin, generic-looking model. Honestly, everytime I see this guy he's with a woman indistinguishable from the previous one. David looked okay except maybe he should work his magic on making the extra pounds he's packed on disappear.
Saw Kelly Kapowski, a.k.a tiffani amber thiessen at lombardi's on friday. she didn't even pull out her b-rate status to get a table in the hour-long wait....bad highlighting job. same day spotted a skinny noah emmerich in the village....dude from Miracle. yeah for B celeb spotting!!
For your Bellis files: Just saw Bret Easton Ellis in the Union Square Whole Foods. He was wearing track pants, a sweatshirt, and a baseball cap, checking out while I was standing in line, maternally cradling my only purchase—a raw, bloody 15-pound turkey. We made eye contact, and he looked at my bird. There was this crazy turkey-creature called the Terby in Lunar Park that kind of scared the shit out of me when I read it, and that was all I could think of.
Bumped into Sam Rockwell coming out of a bar on St. Marks this Saturday and he couldn't have been more Sam Rockwelly, (read: bearded, disheveled and a bit out of it). I shook his unsolicited hand and told him what a big fan I was. He could not have cared less. Anypoopers, the li'l guy made me feel tall—and I'm a towering 5'8.
Seen: Peter Dinklage at Jefferson Grill in the Village. He was at the bar, looking very manly, for a good two hours with a rather fetching brunette.Apropos of nothing, the first time I saw the talented thesp was a few yearsago in an off-off-Broadway serial called "Poona the Fuckdog." He played, if memory serves, Prince Charming. You can look it up.
Saw Everwood star Scott Wolf (Party of Five alum!) and Real Worlder New Orleans wife Kelly Limp outside Pearl Oyster Bar on Cornelia St. today (Sat) around 2 pm. They had shopping bags and were disappointed Pearl was closed. (I work at the restaurant adjacent, Home.) Very attractive couple, both are short though. I tried to catch their attention to coerce them into my restaurant, but Scott had already pulled out his Blackberry to make other eating arrangements. They look like a sweet couple.
