My mother in law went to Patsy's on 56th last night. Sitting a few tables down was Liza Minnelli and her entourage of queens. The meal progressed without incident, until the dessert course, whereupon Liza got up, and, clutching a fork in her hand, went right up to the dessert cart and stood there and began sampling from the tiramisu, the cheesecake, and so on. Oy.
Saturday the 7th circa 5 PM @ MiLady's in Soho, Luke Wilson having a few rounds with some friends and chatting with some locals. Seems rather chill and rather bloated bring it Luke. Later on into Sunday morning (no I didn't drink just here ALL day but at other watering holes as well), Benicio Del Toro who is surprisingly tall relaxing with two lovely young things and leaving with both around 3 AM. He was pretty much 'ignored' by the local raunchy crowd but his presence was felt should have obviously played Darth Vader in the end.
Spotted Anderson Cooper at dinner tonight at Le Tableau, excellent French Bistro in Alphabet City. First walked in and sat down with obviously gay mulatto dude, then two handsome, hipster flaming white dudes joined them minutes later. The table nearly engulfed in flames.
Peter Dinklage and Ann Magnuson strolling down 3rd Ave. on Saturday holding hands! An alt celeb royal connection if I ever saw one.
Stood just feet away from Josh Hartnett (sans Scarlett) in the Back Room on the Lower East Side. He had his hood on and later donned a pair of black plastic rimmed glasses and, although I hate to admit it, he's quite amazing looking. Also spotted Tim Robbins (sans Susan) behind the bar serving drinks and wearing tinted framed glasses; he seemed really friendly and is really tall, towering over his crowd of admirers. Interesting night, to say the least.
Eating a hamburger at Pete's Tavern on New Years with friends. By way of Johnny Damon, who was a topical subject of conversation back then, started talking about Fever Pitch, an awful movie to sit through on long flights. Suddenly, heard a familiar voice I couldn't place. Peered around my friend and who should I see but Jimmy Fallon, star of said bad movie. I don't think he heard our disparagement, though, as he continued lavishing birthday gifts (late Christmas gifts?) on an obnoxious friend that couldn t stop yelling "Hayo!" at the top of his lungs. He got a dress and some pieces of the Berlin Wall, from what I could gather. Also there: good looking, disinterested women with dark hair. Jimmy, by contrast, had lightened hair and thick black glasses. Grossest thing: I saw the nervous waitress take a bite of used food from Jimmy's plate before dumping it. Blech.
Last night (1/5) at Wolfgang's Steakhouse: The Donald, Melania (gorgeous), Donald Jr., his wife and some assorted friends and/or co-workers. Sitting a huge round table in the center of the room. They all started with huge shrimp/crab cocktails and then moved on to steak. Donald's hair really is inexplicable.
Saw Reese Witherspoon at the spa at the Mandarin Oriental wearing a Camp Beverly Hills Sweat suit. Super cute and nice in person.
Had dinner at Rosa Mexicana (the one by Lincoln Center) Friday night. Went upstairs to use the bathroom, and sitting at a table in the middle of the room was Mira Sorvino, wearing a whole lot of pink. Was eating with a husband type, another couple, and two little kids in high chairs. Everyone looked like they were having a good time.
Fri Jan 6 at Jersey Boys trifecta: Jon Corzine in my row (ok), Larry & Mrs. David (great) and, despite the odd beard, Pierce Brosnan (outstanding).
Saw Keanu Reeves on the uptown C train, Wednesday, 1/4 around 2pm. Now I know where Johnny Damon s facial hair went. He was sitting with a woman with henna-red hair in a faux leopard coat. He was very nice to the two people who asked for his autograph. Isn t it nice that Neo rides the subway?
Saw Elijah Wood yesterday (1/7) on the uptown 6 train at about 1 PM yesterday. I didn't notice him until I noticed his odd frog eyes...I've never seen Lord of the Rings so that makes it a bit harder. He was completely bundled up for the weather, very short, and with a young woman. They got off at 33rd street. My mom also sat next to Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward on a couch during intermission for Abigail's Party last Thursday (1/4). She was absolutely in love with him and his piercing blue eyes.
January 5—Saw Marc Jacobs furtively stealing down Bleecker Street with a female assistant type in his wake. Wearing his trademark just right of nerdy specs, natch. Was way more diminutive than I thought. Almost professed my love on the spot, but contained myself as I was caught head-to-toe in Old Navy. My Penguin clad friend swears up and down they had a moment of Jedi-eye passion.
Just now I spotted Gob from Arrested Development (Will Arnett), Amy Poehler's beau, walking down 7th Ave near 31st Street. He is very tan and was talking on the phone. He mumbled something like having "Will Ferrell do it.
Was at Caf Luxembourg on the UWS Friday night and looked up to see a handsome silver haired gentleman who was walking towards my table. He smiled and I smiled and then as he walked by I realized it was Richard Gere. He then went to the bathroom and had to wait to use it and I looked over and he smiled again (I told my date he better watch out cause Richard Gere was trying to seduce me but he didn t seem that worried) Then he used the bathroom and waited outside for his girlfriend Carrie Lowell to come out of the ladies room. They then rejoined Lena Olin at their table.
I was lucky enough to see my overly dramatic secret boyfriend, Ryan Adams, on 5th and 22nd last Thursday. He was of course complaining about "how tired" he was and being doted on by a more than willing preppy female. It made my day anyway. He may be a pansy, but with our relationship limited to a single sidewalk rendezvous—well, I'm ok with it.
Saw Heather Graham this morning (1/9) in the Union Square Cosi. She was all dolled-up and looked like she was giving an interview to a far less chic blonde woman. Would've stared longer if she hadn't seemed like such an irritating ditz on Letterman the other night perhaps an indication of how that sitcom's going to turn out.
Saw Kevin Connolly at Mercer Kitchen on Saturday night. He sat alone on a banquette (no Entourage?) for about a half-hour, sipping red wine and typing away on his Sidekick. Looked cute (and very small) in black t-shirt.
At Il Buco on Friday night (1/6), spotted a pregnant Christy Turlington and a hot Ed Burns with a large group for dinner. Frederique van der Wal, the model, was also dining there.
Tom Cavanaugh et al were filming in my apartment building foyer this morning. Seems that they've taken over parts of Lafayette (mainly my apt. building stoop) to film Love Monkey. My dog's walk was completely disturbed, but I must admit, the actor did open the door for me at 8:15 am. What a gentleman.
I saw Keri Russell walking down Fifth between 21st & 22nd this afternoon around 3:30 carrying a white shopping bag from a boutique down the street that slips my mind but sells mostly sequined clothing and such. She looks so young! Isn't she close to 30? Blended right in, looked beautiful and very natural...no sunglasses, headphones or cell phone and seemed to just be enjoying the weather like everyone else.
Saw Chris Parnell at Jerry's in Soho, eating with a woman we presumed was his wife since they were talking seriously, no smiles. Best part was he was wearing the plaid shirt he wore in the Chronicles of Narnia/Magnolia cupcakes rap video
Today at Random House, I saw Jon Bon Jovi having lunch with some editors. The women surrounding me were all swooning and angling to get a glimpse, but he was either wearing a lot of makeup or had or some kind of fake spray tan thing going. Very slim though, and looked like a typical (aging) rock star with the leather jacket and highlights.
Sat. Jan. 7-West Village-Greenwich Ave: I was walking along this street enjoying the sunny yet blustery day only to have my inner peace interrupted by the insufferable sounds of Rachael Ray, that infamous Food Network star. I heard her indisputable raspy, ear-piercing voice (it's almost as if she "shrieks," instead of "speaks"). She let out a blood-curdling "Oh, thank you!" to an inane bystander who complimented her on her show. I immediately ran for the hills. How anyone would ever wanna hire her as their cook is beyond me. I would totally lose my appetite if I had to listen to that wench stir-fry vegetables for me!
