The 'Observer' Has Spunk. We Hate Spunk.
Please don't get us wrong: We're incredibly fond of the Observer generally and of its "NYTV" column specifically. We just wish anyone over there had ever, you know, watched an episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show before selecting this particular hed/dek combo:
Because while Roger Clark is apparently exactly as "grubby" and "furry" as was Mr. Grant, it turns out, after reading the piece, that he is not in fact NY1's news director. As Mr. Grant was at WJM. And whose profile one expected to read after seeing that dek.
Which is just to say that we felt a little cheated.
(And also to say: If you make a MTM reference in your display type, and if you then have an elephant anecdote buried in the story, you're just blue-balling us to not make at least a small "Chuckles Bites the Dust" reference. Sheesh.)
