Towleroad interviews Brokeback Mountain producer James Schamus today, who candidly answers many of our burning gay cowboy questions:

On Jake's Golden Globes no-show:

Well, he wasn't nominated and the Globes made a decision on their own not to include him in the Supporting Actor category which we felt was a real disservice to Jake. [...] But he came to our pre-Globes party. He's been a good sport.

On Dennis Quaid's "rhymes with chick flick" Globes joke:

It laid very flat in the room as it probably should have. People just moved on.

On President Bush claiming he hasn't seen the movie:

We were asked for a print of the movie which we supplied to the White House. So maybe somebody there has seen the movie.

UPDATE: A Defamer reader in the audience of the Brokeback Oprah episode gives us a full report after the jump!

And, finally, on the upcoming episode of Oprah that reunites the two star-crossed, bean-eating lovers:

I don't think there were any revelations, but there was an absolute embrace on the part of Oprah and the audience of the movie of the boys which was just amazing. When you see them come out on stage and you see the audience respond to them together, you'll just be blown away.

We admit our TiVos are currently set to record every program beginning with the letter "o" until 2067, lest we happen to get sucked into a particularly engrossing episode of Shipmates and fail to tune in. But we should warn audiences that adding Oprah's signature brand of gooey, feel-good fawning to the already dangerously high Brokeback love-in levels could have potentially disastrous results, with hundreds of thousands of gay men's hearts literally exploding moments after the talk show hostess coaxes a "What I love about Jake," moment out of a red-faced Heath.

This just in from a Defamer reader who attended the taping of the Brokeback Mountain Oprah episode:

Possibly the best day ever!!! We were bussed to see BBM at the local theater and fed lunch before the taping... I sat front row. Jake and Heath are gorgeous... Heath mumbled a lot (shocker, right?). They brought out Anne and Michelle too. Michelle is stunning in person - seems totally whipped by Heath. Anne was pretty cute and articulate. Said something kind of rude to Oprah and then was apologizing profusely during the break. The "chemistry" between Jake and Heath was fair - you can tell they're getting sick of doing this and answering the same questions over and over again.
