It's back. Three syrup-sniffing reports received overnight:

he maple syrup smell is back and very strong here in Astoria. It's like being in a Waffle House, but in a good way... or in my wife's grandfathers Sugar shack in Quebec. I hope Manhattan is getting its fair share too.

The smell was back last night.

I thought it was a thing of the past, but last night, walking home in Astoria, it was there. The unmistakable smell of syrup, with no logical source around.

Like everyone else, we have no idea what causes this or why it keeps reappearing. But we know this: If Giuliani were still in charge, there's no way this unauthorized pleasantness would be allowed to continue.
