Chasez, Ricky Martin, and, in our third installment of one man's excessively lengthy ruminations on fashion quasi-notables, Lily Donaldson.
I had a triple B Saturday when I saw Bono at Balthazar during Brunch. No one dared to bother him and his ubiquitous sunglasses as he drank his white wine and ate some kind of French toast-looking item. He was accompanied by an older lady friend.
Saw Gael Garcia Bernal crossing Houston and Bleecker smoking a bogey with some dudes in suits. He's tiny.
Saw Ben Stiller at the shoot of Night At The Museum on West Broadway just south of Broome this afternoon (Feb 3). Apparently the scene involved Ben coming out of a restaurant and kicking the car parked outside. While I was standing there, saw Kerri Russell running by. Literally she was running, but not in running clothes. Don't think she is in the cast though. A few feet away saw Stephen Colbert standing with a couple of guys at the corner of W Broadway and Broome.
(2/3) Just ran into reporter extraordinaire Anderson Cooper for the second time. He was in all his glory at the Time Warner Center 10th floor Caf . Sleek black suit, sparkly hair, you know you know. Picked up a salad or sorts, few oranges, healthy man!
I saw Anna Wintour yesterday at Kenneth Cole, and I just want to say she was wearing the ugliest outfit I've ever seen in my life. I was disappointed, because I usually find myself oddly attracted to her underfed thighs. She looked as though she'd just been tar and feathered, minus the feathers.
Everyone's favorite Village denizen, Sarah Jessica Parker, with no-longer-so-little James Wilke propped on her hip, getting into a cab on University and 12th today with a guy (not Matthew) and a woman (galpal? nanny?). Sporting her big ole' wrap sunnies, even though it was gray out, and a snug army-green parachute bomber jacket. Oh so tiny, and oh so distinctive. Brokeback Mountain's Anne Hathaway hustling down Madison Ave on a drizzly Saturday afternoon with a young, dark haired guy who looked OK, but nothing close to Jack Twist. She looked pretty if you like very large features but definitely needs to rethink her jeans. And she should make sure she tries on her new ones in front of a three way mirror.
At the Spotted Pig for brunch, I first thought it I was looking at Andy Samberg from SNL but my boyfriend pointed out that b/c it was after 12:00 on the day of a live show, that Andy would be in Rock Center somewhere. He was right. Turned out it was Will Janowitz, the dude who plays Meadow Soprano's boyfriend Finn DeTrolio. He and Andy definitely look like they might share some DNA. Later walking down Prince Street, we were standing across the street from Late Show host Craig Ferguson, who, when some obnoxious Bridge and Tunneler in BMW started to honk his horn, motioned for the bastard to hush keep it down. Finally, as we were walking down Wooster, wound up right behind Jean Reno (The Pink Panther, Da Vinci Code, Mission Impossible and The Professional) with a lady friend. He's actually a good-looking dude in person. He was speaking French and acting normal. Probably heading for the Apple store...I heard the word iPod peppered into the conversation.
Thursday night I was at the bar in the Waldorf-Astoria. I was thinking it was very midtown unhip and uncool, but then the entire cast of SNL showed up. All in gowns and tuxes. Must have been at an event upstairs. Standouts: Amy Poehler was stunning with a tight ponytail; she was sitting with Maya Rudolph and Rachel Dratch laughing and happy, probably that Tina Fey stayed home. Believe it or not, Lorne Michaels looked silver foxy and was talking to Jimmy Fallon, who kept cracking himself up. I got myself up close to Seth Meyers to look in to his blue movie star eyes. He smiled back. Sigh. Andy Samberg is young for me, but pretty damn sexy. I recognized some others but they all are pretty blah, which is one of the many, many problems with SNL.
My sister and I saw Liev Schreiber at about noon Sunday afternoon standing on the corner of Mercer and Prince, outside Mercer Kitchen, texting furiously. He's tall, that man but maybe just because I'm so short!
So...Michael Showalter at a karaoke joint Saturday night in the East Village. He hung out with a pretty girl who looked seriously about 17 and a blonde friend who didn't look much older. He did a funny dance while someone sang the Cher neo classic, "Believe". Oddly enough his barely legal (and uh, Asian?) friend did a dead-on Jay-Z impression for one song, then the three of them took off. They looked like they had fun amidst the crowd of karaoke drunkards. I was hoping he could look as dapper as he does on Stella, but he looked like he was in the middle of a very casual Saturday night. But one "I'm Outta Heeeere!" and I would have been all over that.
Spotted Tom Wilkinson at Cafe Carlyle on Weds sitting in a side booth with a few younger people. He is pretty normal looking, as expected. Not too chubby. Was sporting square glasses and some fucked up velveteen scarf in an autumnal shade. Seemed utterly normal. Love love love him, but hated the affected scarf. Wanted to tell Tom to fuck Sissy, he was better than her in In the Bedroom.
Bebe Neuwirth getting her nails done at Jin Soon Salon. She was carrying an oversize Chanel bag and wearing a "funky" navy skirt with pattern of line drawings of Abe Lincoln(?!). She was a little too frizzy and long in the tooth to be wearing her hair in Heidi-like double-braids. But she helpfully offered directions to the nearest Barnes and Noble when the patron who asked the staff just received flummoxed looks.
Thurs, 2/1 sat four tables away from Jay-Z at Nobu 57. He was dressed in a brown track jacket, baseball cap, and jeans and was seated at a booth close to the sushi counter with no Beyonce, but five beautiful backup dancer-type ladies. Had to pass by him twice on my way to the bathroom...they were sharing a massive sushi platter and only drank water. He was being as discrete as possible in the actual restaurant itself, but had to get past his security detail leaving the restaurant and then the fleet of Escalades and Maybach waiting outside...
Yesterday (Thursday) evening, I walked by the Church of Scientology on W 46th Street and felt a strange mix of delight and disappointment to see Giovanni Ribisi standing out front, talking on his phone. There was a large sign proclaiming an Open House that night, so perhaps he was helping with recruitment? Then I passed Matthew Broderick less than one block later in front of Barbetta on W 46th, looking as stiff as ever.
Lindsay Lohan, Theodora Richards, Jamie Lynn Siegler, Ana Beatriz Barros, Richie Rich and Traver Rains (Traver was holding another cute boy's hand all night...) all at Drive In Studios last night. No real exciting observations.
Was at Elio's last night for a friend's going away party and there sitting in all his suede-vested and Wrangler jean wearing glory was Tom Selleck. He was with a tall blond woman and another couple. He wasn't just wearing the vest he had a blue western type shirt on as well. A little wrinkly and goateed but still looking good. Couldn't tell if he got into a Ferrari when he left.
Had a touch of the vapors last night (2/2) around 7 when I passed Gabriel Byrne on 8th avenue near 46th apparently on his way to "A Touch of the Poet." So craggy, yet so handsome.
I met Howard Dean yesterday evening on the 6 train at 51st. Dude rides the subway! I did a triple take before he said "Yeah, it s me." I shook his hand, told him what a pleasure it was to meet him, asked him what he was doing in town (raising money for the DNC), gave him my business card (me: if you ever need an opera singer... yeah, right! Well, maybe he will, who knows?), and generally grinned like an idiot. And then, of course, my socially inappropriate gene kicked in.
Me: So, the new House leader, how do you pronounce his name?
Howard Dean: Oh I don t know. I think its Bayner.
Me: Because, you know, in German it s B hner.
Howard Dean: Uh, well that sounds apt.
At this point Dean breaks away, and I continue to grin like an idiot.
Saw Mike Meyers on Stuyvesant Street in the East Village on Sunday afternoon. He was flirting with a young woman outside of the NYU teachers' college building. Could she be the reason he split with his wife recently?
1/31/06 grand opening of Nest: Josh Lucas (scruffy looking), Kevin Dillon from Entourage (shorter than I expected) and Ja Rule with his whole entourage.... FYI Ja Rule was smoking these funny-smelling cigarettes! Spotted Ja Rule later that night at Home and again at Cain.
Tonight I went to see "The Little Dog Laughed," which as regular Gawker Stalker readers know is a tale about a powerful Hollywood figure who enters a beard marriage to obfuscate his homosexuality from the general public and offers his rent-boy lover a job as his "personal assistant." There's only one celeb sighting there that could top the earlier Nicole Kidman one on the irony scale, and that would be Barry Diller, who attended the show with his wife Diane ... as well an extremely attractive 30ish lad, presumably his "personal assistant." Oh, and Meryl Streep was there too; weirdly enough, she was sitting with Susan Sullivan, whom Gawker's thirty- and fortysomething gay male readers may remember from her role as Maggie on "Falcon Crest."
I saw Angie Harmon in the shoe department at Saks yesterday, 2/2. She was lounging on one of the couches, and she was with a huge, burly guy who I assumed was her bodyguard. Seriously does Angie freaking Harmon really need a bodyguard? I've seen much bigger stars walking around the city alone.
Buzzing after picking up my front-row tickets for Sweeney Todd at about noon on Groundhog Day, I was crossing 7th Ave at 47th St and I looked over to see a be shaded and trenchcoated Danny Bonaduce, smoking a cigarette and trying to look anonymous. I gave him that pleasure and accelerated across the street and into Sam Ash guitar store.
Thurs. 2/2 at around 3:30pm, I was walking east on W. 4th about a block from Corner Bistro and Milla Jovovich with gal pal cross the street toward me. As I passed them, they were standing on the sidewalk staring up at a brownstone. house shopping, perhaps?
Spotted Jacquetta Wheeler (tall, tanned, skinny, pleasant-looking, in green bomber and skinny black trousers) at the corner or Prince and Broadway, outside A/X yesterday afternoon. She kissed her boyfriend Alexi Lubomirski (looks a male version of her, just as tall, in dark blazer) and they took off in separate directions.
Saw Newman, aka Wayne Knight, walking up 4th avenue last night, he looked Newman-esque and was bopping out to some tunes on his headphones, not an iPod, i might add. I restrained the urge to yell, "wall-et", or "hello, jerry" at him, but it was hard.
Ride the subways safely my friends because I just sat next to/spoke with former Counterterrorism Expert turned Bush Basher Richard Clark on a downtown 1/9 train. Told him I felt slightly safer knowing he was on the train. He said to me that the NYC police are actually doing a great job protecting us! And, that if we left our cities overall security to the Feds instead, we'd be screwed.
At the John Varvatos show, saw the King of Classy Women, the ex-Mr. Longoria and Mr. Reid, J.C. Chasez. Shockingly, very attractive. Too bad he's done.
Spotted Ricky Martin in the Starbucks at 60th and Broadway at about 9:15 PM on Sunday night. He was with 2 younger guys and a young woman, all of whom were speaking Spanish. The guys with him were all hot, but didn't appear gay. The chick with them was wearing a head scarf and a long coat and was plump. Ricky was wearing some hot looking designer jeans, a stocking cap and the gayest leather coat on earth. It looked good, but so apparently fashionable and gay. It was tan leather with fur lining around the collar, cuffs and bottom. Nothing a straight man would wear. Well, maybe a wealthy or European man would wear it. So there goes my theory based on his wardrobe. He was looking trim. Much thinner in person than I had remembered in photos. I have to say, i would hit on him. He set off my hottie radar before I knew it was him. I was really hoping I'd witness some man-on-man PDA from him and his crew, but was regrettably disappointed. Damn his crew was loud, though. Naturally a pack of Latins is going to be loud.
[Ed: Once again, we are going to reprint the following sighting in painstaking detail because, well, it s funnier that way.]
LILY DONALDSON. Saturday Feb. 4, 2006. 11:10 pm spring street betw Lafayette & Broadway, north side of street in front of that awesome korean deli with beverages galore. She s pretty tall about 5'9"-10" in flats. Lily is an example of a model that is huge in the business, shes been in vogue every month or 2 for a year & many foreign mags too & works every top show, yet joe average does not know her name & has maybe seen her burberry ads or US vogue if at all. its fashion week so the models are in soho although Im sure Lily lives in nyc as pretty much every top model does. as slim as lily looks in pictures, she's even more thin in person. her face is really thin, like a library book actually, although it photographs wider. I was impressed with her fine features in person- if you know her look she has the cutest lil fine nose and lips, more impressive in person. and piercing eyes that dart from her sepulchral pale visage. Shes wearing a navy peacoat, I think its burberry, one of her foremost campaigns. actually its not a literal french/english navy peacoat, its kind of a cross between a peacoat and a harrington and a navy wool coat. I think its really sharp & im sure its burberry. she has an oatmeal/heather grey crewneck sweater on underneath- its a rainy saturday night- and the oatmeal sweater is longer than the peacoat & I can see it peeking out at her wrists and her waist. she has on medium blue jeans, somewhat faded but not especially worn in. they are very slim fit and pegged, as you know severely tapered jeans are a top look of the moment. along with her tall slim angular build, the tapered slim jeans accent her thinness too. she is wearing black velvet slippers with a bow on them. I think these are marc jacobs. as you might expect being so tall & thin her feet do look slightly lost or skeletal in the ballet flats, as much as I can see them. I saw lisa cant last fashion week wearing these same marc ballet flats with bow. but lisa's were red and quite worn. lisa might have been in the top 20-25 models in 2005 but shes falling fast. lily is definitely a more successful model than lisa cant, I would say lily is arguably in the top 10 models for the last 2 years, she can afford brand new marc black ballet flats with a bow while lisa cant wore worn ones {to a BCBG casting that she & anouck didnt make the cut!} oh lily's hair. her hair was longish and flying off her head like a lions mane. it was 50% blonde & 50% light brown. it was clear to me that the brown is much closer to her natural color. if youve seen lily's pictures you know she usually has a light blonde peroxide look. while striking in pictures I found that dyed blonde too harsh in person. she is so pale and has angelic luminescent skin, her natural brunette gives her a warmer look but i guess for work she is remade blonde. the fakeness of that blonde dye was apparent in person, and the only slightly negative aspect to her otherwise becoming and ethereal slim appearance. if I had been thinking faster i should have invited lily to a party or 2 I was attending saturday night. but I just took in her ensemble as above and she walked east on spring towards lafayette. I bought my hot chocolate at the korean deli and headed west on spring. fashion week rules.
