Mag Circ Reports: Let Us Now Praise Celeb Mags
The new batch of Audit Bureau stats on magazine circ isn't out till next week, but Ad Age's Nat Ives is growing restless. He's tallied up a bunch of early reports and finds a shocking amount of good news (for the industry, if not so much for society):
Major gainers include In Touch Weekly, which had 1.2 million average circ in the second half of 2005, a 15.5 percent year-to-year increase. Us Weekly was at 1.7 million, up 12.7 percent. Star hit 1.4 million, up 10 percent. And The Week reached 366,758, up a whopping 58.3 percent.
Lots of other mags didn't see much change in either direction. And one big loser is O, The Oprah Magazine, which dropped 9.3 percent to 2.4 million.
We're sure that's James Frey's fault. Or Nan Talese's. It's always Nan's fault.
