Colin Farrell Wants His Cop Funeral Details Right
The family of a Bronx police officer mistakenly shot by another cop were somewhat stunned to find some of the cast members of drama Pride and Glory, including star Colin Farrell, standing outside the funeral with a camera crew, for what appeared to be a research field trip (see tiny photo evidence). The NY Daily News reports:
Eric Hernandez, 24, a star running back on the NYPD football team, was mistakenly shot by a fellow officer on Jan. 28 after being beaten by six hoodlums inside a Bronx White Castle. He died nearly 11 days later.
Farrell, co-star Noah Emmerich, a few other cast members and Detective Richard Tirelli, who is a consultant on the film, stood outside St. Bernard's Catholic Church as a camera crew filmed the procession. The footage will be used to guide production crews when they re-create a police funeral in the movie. [...]Eric Hernandez's mother, Cynthia Salichs, who is separated from his father, and the cop's aunt were also surprised to see Farrell. His aunt called the film crew's presence exploitative.
While we are all for our favorite movie stars trying on different hats to see what behind-the-scenes movie making roles might fit, we feel Farrell was stretching a bit when he named himself Pride and Glory's Associate Producer for Grief Re-Enactment. Sometimes, it's preferable to merely work from memory, than having to sheepishly approach the weak, weeping mother and say "That was great, lov'. But could you collapse on the church stairs one more time? There was a plane flying overhead."
