Gawker Stalker: BreakingCate Blanchett Braves Flatbush Avenue!
In this misplaced celebrities edition of the Stalker: Cate Blanchett does Brooklyn, Eli Manning does Hoboken, Jack White, Jules Asner and Steven Soderbergh, David Cross, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Lauren Ambrose, Mandy Moore, Chloe Sevigny, Gabriel Byrne, Cuba Gooding Jr, Mike Myers, Janeane Garofalo, Ed Burns, Sean Connery, Jim McGreevey, Kyle Gass, Tom Cavanaugh, Michael Showalter, Henry Rollins, Nick Nolte, Michael Stipe, Jena Malone, Keri Russell, Tatum O Neal, Kim Gordon, Robin Leach, Tony Danza, and Dr. Ruth Westheimer.
Saturday Feb 18th at 1 pm saw Cate Blanchett looking absolutely gorgeous (as always) walking by herself against the frigid wind and subzero temperatures up, bizarrely, Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, on the edge of Park Slope. On a very down-on-its-heels block of Flatbush, I might add, but she was dressed very stylishly in a grey knit coat and hat...maybe she came from the PATH station at Atlantic Avenue, or Target, and was headed to brunch? Hard to imagine what she was doing here. No one noticed her except me, and thankfully no one noticed me start stage whispering furiously into my cell "Oh my God Queen Elizabeth just walked by, oh my God.
Saw Eli Manning enjoying brunch today (2/20) with a drop-dead gorgeous blonde at Cafe Baron in Hoboken. Baby Manning looked predictably athletic with long limbs splayed out all over the place in the cramped restaurant, and his date had that effortlessly hot thing going on — not done up at all. I'm glad to see the fancy people enjoy dirty Jerz as much as I do.
Well if her husband s cheating on her, Kate Hudson stills seems totally chipper and gorgeous even at very un-chipper time of morning. I was running an errand in the West Village on Thursday morning and wondering what the guy with the zoom lens could possibly be photographing on this totally boring block when I realized the woman in front of me was Kate Hudson and her kid being paparazzi-ed. They were playfully stomping around making choo-choo train sounds. When she spotted the photographer she said to the boy (nice mommy voice, but clearly not happy), What are those guys doing? That s not very nice. I tried to get out of the shot, not really wanting to look like an unwashed wildebeest next to miss shiny hair, at which point I tripped over her kid. They weren t bothered. Nice, pretty, and a cute baby? Fuck her.
On my way home from Detroit Sunday about 530 pm at the airport my boyfriend said "Hey, there's your boy." I look up and Jack White (my personal guitar god and only guy I would cheat on my boyfriend with) is walking by about 8 feet away from us. He was walking out of the airport as we were going in. He's much better looking in person than I thought he would be. He's honestly good looking. Looks like he lost weight, and he's very tall. He was wearing red plaid pants, a black jacket, and that hat he seems to always wear lately. He was also carrying a cane, which my boyfriend thought was weird since he's not injured or anything. No sunglasses or entourage either, he wasn't even carrying a bag. Just Jack all by himself. A million thoughts went through my head like getting my camera out or following him but I didn't want to bother him (or maybe I think I m too cool for that? I'm not sure.) He had a pleasant look on his face, too. As he walked by I turned to see where he was going and he twirled his cane awesome. My crush is renewed.
Had a Valentine's Day sighting of Jules Asner and Steven Soderbergh at BLT Steak on 57th Street. This is pretty east for them my girlfriend sees them all the time in Chelsea. Anyways, they were dressed up and had an early dinner...as they left, a gaggle of female PR types (who were obviously having their v-date with each other since they can't land a man) gave the couple the stink eye up-and-down when the two were getting their coats. From my seat at the bar they both looked liked Prada (the coats, not the PR types), if anyone cares. Also saw Miranda from 'Sex and the City' at my chiropractor's, apologizing that her insurance hadn't paid her bill (is she really relying on a co-pay for adjustments?). No girlfriend in sight.
David Cross was at Rififi on Saturday night. He and 2 friends had a nibble of anniversary cake that was sitting out on the bar and proclaimed "this seven inch is edible"! Though I don't know why you'd try and eat a plastic looking cake decoration if it wasn't. For a second I was worried it was the infamous imposter, but unless fakey has the voice down to a T and knows what DC usually drinks, it was def him.
Walking home through Washington Square Park (2/17) and filming was taking place on De Niro's latest, but no sign of Angelina. But I did spot Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, who was accosted by a woman who delivered the intelligent, incisive comment of 'I thought you were brilliant in Match Point'. He was alarmingly pleasant to her, although I feel he should have brought his Scarlett-killing shotgun and aimed it at her face. But then I don t give money to hobos either so...
Was having a late night vodka-soaked meal at Odeon last night (2/17) and saw Claire Fisher herself, Lauren Ambrose, at a neighboring table. As others have noted, she looks tiny and lovely in person. Better than on TV, actually.
Mandy Moore at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Thursday looking totally beautiful even in just jeans and Uggs. She seemed to be part of an art class which made me doubt that it was her in the first place, but once I got a good look it was definitely her. She seemed super sweet and even let people take pictures before leaving with her friend.
Feb 17th just spotted Chloe Sevigny having lunch an enormous lunch at Veselka with some little Asian hipster girl. They were chowing down and laughing a lot.
Spotted Gabriel Byrne on Sunday in the audience of John Patrick Shanley's new play, Defiance. As per usual, he looked tall and dashing. Was sitting with a middle-aged blonde woman and also chatted up some friends in the audience (maybeDefiance director Dough Hughes, who worked on A Touch of the Poet with Byrne?).
I spotted Cuba Gooding Jr today (Friday afternoon) at Florent in the meatpacking. He was with a friend, ordered a burger, was very nice, and extremely good looking. Too bad he is married with 2 kids!!!
At around 6:45 on Thursday night I walked into Tea and Sympathy in the West Village with a friend and at first I completely missed Mike Myers sitting in the front window. It was only after my friend told me he was fighting the urge to go over and scream YEAH BABY in the otherwise fairly sedate little tea house (which admittedly would have been hilariously obnoxious) that I noticed him. Myers looks collegiate and surprisingly cute he has exceptional skin at least in that light. He was very reserved and you had to really study him to figure out if he was actually talking. Everyone else in the place were clearly working hard to pretend they were unmoved by his presence.
Saw Janeane Garofalo last night (2/16) at a Refinery29/BlackBook event on Elizabeth. Sure, she looks her age, dresses like a Fallout Boy groupie (mesh trucker hat and layered jersey skirts), but underneath the strangely stoney face, she's got the sexy somehow. Bored, bored, bored, but a treat to see as always. Just wish she'd transition into a more sophisticated wardrobe Miu Miu perhaps?
Walked by tall-drink-of-water Ed Burns while heading south (Thurs. evening 2/16) on 9th Ave. through the meatpacking district. Too hot to handle, bedroom eyes and all.
Aaron Eckhart on the 1 train this morning (Friday). Got on at 66th street and is pretty damn good looking. When the doors opened at 42nd street a group of school children started shuffling off the subway car and Aaron must have realized that this was his stop because he popped up to run off but totally won my heart when he held his arm out as if to make sure none of the kids were left behind. I love you.
Sean Connery having dinner with his wife at La Goulue on Valentine's Day.
Unemployed male celebrity edition: Mon 2/13 Starbucks on Union Sq West Gay American Jim McGreevey (with a hot young man); Tue 2/14, same Starbucks Kyle Gass from Tenacious D; Tue 2/14, Broadway & 70th or so (can't exactly remember) I'm 99% certain I saw former Love Monkey Tom Cavanaugh; Fri 2/17, 17th St near Broadway Michael Showalter, from Wet Hot American Summer and Stella.
2/17—Friday evening, random sighting...Henry Rollins on 41st between 7th and Broadway. Spotted him immediately. He looked like a handsome construction worker with his jeans and a backpack. I wondered where he was going. He is shorter than I expected and not nearly as scary or intimidating as he seems when he's running and screaming on stage. I was also surprised at how salt his salt and pepper hair is now. My friend yelled out "Henry!" after he passed us, but he didn't turn around. I wanted him to sing me some, "Your number is one Your number is one!"
Saw a very unkempt Nick Nolte at the Borders in the Time Warner Center. He was lying on the floor in the Buddhism/Metaphysical Studies section. Playing a harmonica. He looked much worse than the infamous mug shot.
Still nauseous from my Fung-Wah bus ride from Boston, saw Michael Stipe at Matsuri tonight (2/18). He sat on the bench next to my table as he waited for his. He's graying but otherwise looks pretty good. Pretty much exactly like he looks on TV. Sat with his bleached blonde male friend while they stared at their cell-phones. At one point he put his arm around said friend while they stared at friend's cell-phone together. Is he gay and I'm the last person alive to hear about it?
Jena Malone in the interview room for the Motherfucker documentary at Avalon on Sunday night. She was wasted out of her mind and barged in on her friend's interview countless times. She was singing to herself about an apricot she had just taken from a fruit tray. She also sang to herself about stealing a Nutrigrain bar, which she proceeded to do. She took it out of the box, slid it into her boot and barged in once again on the interview. She was then removed by a few members of the crew.
Felicity (Keri Russell) eating dinner at Robin des Bois, the crazy French place on Smith St, with her ponytailed boyfriend and another couple. My mum will be so jealous.
Decided to shop tonight after work and on 5th/20s, saw a very skinny Tatum O'Neal on her cell phone standing up against a random building. As I walked by staring, she slammed her Razor phone shut and said to herself "What a jerk!" I popped into Club Monaco to browse, and about 5-7 minutes later (no good shit), I came out and she was still standing there, trying to hail a cab. She was about halfway in the street, doing the gotta go dance, whining "Oh come on!" Tatum needs to a) stop talking to herself, b) realize you can't get a cab at 6:30 on a Friday very quickly, even if you have an Oscar, and c) eat a sandwich.
Walking on Broome Street on Sunday, I glance up and who is walking by but none other than queen of true rock hipness, Kim Gordon. She was in fine fashionable form with a black hoodie pulled over messy blond hair, and an awesome belted plaid wool coat. I turned for one last look after she had passed, and saw she had a beautiful white quilted Marc Jacobs bag over her shoulder. She brought a little spark to the fucking freezing day.
I saw Robin Leach on 9th avenue outside the Chelsea Market. I feel bad that my reaction was accidentally rude. It's just that his is head/face is really huge and I was kind of alarmed. I wish he had been speaking loudly about fancy houses.
Just wanted to report that I saw Tony Danza chatting happily on his cell phone as he walked past the movie theater at Lincoln Center at about 6:45 last night. I only noticed him because he walked like a drunk man swaggering, laughing, etc.
Saw Dr. Ruth Westheimer hailing a cab Friday afternoon at 5th Ave. and 58th St. She is very small.
