Last night (2/22) I was on Kenmare and Lafayette, across the street from La Esquina (in that little triangle park/no man's land). I wanted to throw away my gum, but there was a guy in an old brown leather trenchcoat and gray fedora sitting with his legs outstretched on a ledge by the garbage can, and he looked shady/homeless. I approached the garbage can anyway, at which point the guy looked up he had twinkling brown eyes, sexy scruff and an earring: it was Colin Farrell, on his cell phone. We made eye contact as I dropped my gum in the can, and I heard him say "diye tink yer gawnna scars letter?" which is Irish-accented English for "do you think you're going to Scores later?" Ew. He's definitely straddling the line between appealing and appalling, among the other things he's straddling.
I cannot believe this. Around 3:30am Sunday, walking home on E 10th between first and A, and right next door to my apartment, buzzing a door and checking his cell phone for the number of the person inside (I assume) was Colin Farrell. I walked by him (he was wearing a leather jacket and fedora). He gave me an icy glare, as if to tell me to not ask if it was him. I hung outside my door, next door, playing with the keys, so I could check it out some more to see if it was him. When the person finally answered the buzzer, Colin answered with his unmistakable accent, Sorry, man, I lost your number, can you let me in? Don t know what the hell he was doing there, though.
I saw Natalie Portman at the Stars show at Webster hall on Saturday. She was tiny, in hipster skinny jeans and Converse-like sneakers, with a big green tote bag it wasn't the typical Saturday night out outfit, but she fit in with the crowd. She was with a fairly attractive woman with long brown hair and some tall guy in a camo cap. She was very nice. Her hair looked amazing, though she had a lot of gel in it that had gotten hard, which I only could tell because I towered over her. She was so tiny!
New York Feb 25 I went to see Bad Brains at CBGB and standing among the hipsters and New York hardcore faithful was none other than Steve Buscemi. Everyone's favorite vegan, Moby was also in attendance. During the show, Moby stood near the; he shook hands with a number of people who sported mohawks and multiple facial piercings. Although Moby took off a few songs into the Bad Brains set, Buscemi stayed until the end of the show. As the crowd dispersed, Buscemi was standing near the stage talking to a fellow concert-goer.
On 2/26, Drew Barrymore and Fab at Once Upon a Tart eating chocolate cupcakes and drinking some kind of iced beverage. Drew looked great in a messy way mussed hair (back to dirty blonde) and jeans tucked into Uggs. Great skin. Not tiny as compared to skinny actresses but small in a 'real people' way. Fab is tall, tall, tall and exuded the "yeah, I'm a cool rock star" vibe. Drew was very sweet and more subdued. Nice Sunday evening sighting.
I saw Mandy Moore today 2/26 on the corner of Prince and Elizabeth. Carrying her Balenciaga bag (of course) and was holding lots of shopping bags.
Last night (2/21) while having a very tasty and grown up dinner at Mas on Downing Street, I spotted Michael Stipe at the corner table, breaking bread with 3 other men. Every single one seemed gayer than the other: a youngish Asian dude, a bespectacled platinum/spiky hair dude, and a muscle-type one. Michael seemed pretty mellow, wearing a somewhat odd green sweater. Not a place I expected to run into a (former) rock star.
Saw Michael Imperioli, looking cold and standing with a group of people, Sunday afternoon in front of Landmarc on West Broadway.
Saw documentary filmmaker/PBS boy wonder Ken Burns with his wife (?) at Shecky's Shop on Broome St. on Friday 2/24. Maybe his next big doc will be on retail? Of course nobody I told knew who the hell he was.
Spotted Frances McDormand at the downstairs bar during Friday night's Yeah Yeah Yeahs show at Bowery Ballroom. Very no-nonsense, dressed down in a simple white top and jeans hair pulled back and no makeup. Seemed incredibly down to earth and is surprisingly attractive in person. Ladies and Gentleman, meet my unexpected new crush.
So I am sitting in my car at Perry and West 4th waiting for the street sweeper and today I got some entertainment. Sant Ambroeus has been set up for a filming for awhile now thought maybe they were doing a scene for the Catherine Zeta Jones flick about to be filming at the old Hue space. Anyhow, a town car just pulls up and out comes Barbara Walters. Maybe she is doing one of her Oscar night interviews in there.
I saw Charlie Rose on Sunday buying Ralph Lauren tighty whities at Bloomie's. The poor guy had a crowd around him pretending they were interested in the same purchase.
Sunday afternoon, Kate and Andy Spade with their kid having lunch at the Sarabeth's in the Whitney. Didn't notice what kind of bag either one was wearing...
Sunday 2/26, 4:30-ish, who's jaywalking at 78th and Madison but Faye Dunaway! She grabbed a cab and sped away before a citizens' arrest could be made.
Saturday, 2/25 saw the fabulously frugal Suze Orman perusing the Michael Kors resortwear in Bergdorf. She looks less toothy in person and was rocking a full length, black quilted parka and some serious Whitney Houston tinted glasses (we're talking purplish lenses)...but hey, at least we know where she gets those crazy outfits for her show.
Oliver Platt bicycling in the West Village, pulling over on Bedford & owning asking an extremely handsome man where MAS is. On the same block, the Anthrax drummer happens to dwell. Camera crews everywhere. Oliver inquires, "what's going on?". Chats with a couple of the policemen, who all compliment his acting. He proceeds to meet his wife for dinner.
i saw sandra bernhardt with an unidentified gentleman at chelsea piers on 2/21. Her daughter was with her and they looked like the happy family. Sandra looked radiant and seemed very taken by her strong man. Has sandra found her new sperm doner? did He turn her straight?
Just spotted Joan Rivers (Must. Turn. Away... But. Can't.) in Times Square — no, not at the wax museum, although that may just be semantics — shooting some sort of red carpet-related promo. Me to a tourist snapping away with camera-phone: "Um, are you sure you want to take a picture of THAT?" Tourist: "I know! Plastic surgery does crazy things to people!"
Chris Parnell from SNL with a girlfriend/date at Mezze in the Berkshires this past President's day weekend. Wouldn't have noticed him except for the fact that he ate his salad for an hour before his chicken.
saw bruce willis on 41st and park ave on feb. 21st around noon. all i have to say is bravo! bravo to the hair and make up people! he was actually looking pretty good. he didnt look too skinny and trying to look like he's 25. and the complete bald head wasnt really working for him either. he was wearing a tux -seems like him and halle berry have been filming in this neighborhood lately. there was strangely no one around but me and two annoying tourists. bruce was nice when one of them said over and over again "can she have her picture with you? can she have her picture with you? can she have her picture with you?" each time growing more and more hysterical! if i had been him i would have said "f that noize! i'm in the middle of shooting a movie and am in between scenes!" but alas i'm not and the tourist got her picture with a very gracious bruce willis.
Passed by Joan Collins last night (2/22) at 64th and Broadway. She has dark brown hair now so it took me a few glances, but there is no mistaking that face. She also had the shakes and not because it was cold. She was not sure of her directions, turning around in circles a few times.
saw a pretty tiny-looking dan abrams at sunday brunch with a female companion, cornelia street cafe. take your nerdy red baseball cap off during breakfast, dan!
harvey keitel pushing a baby stroller in tribeca with a face that looks like, oh, i don't know, an ancient leather handbag? rough.
On 2/22 I saw Sarah Jessica Parker with friends I couldn't identify at Grand Sichuan on 24th and 9th. SJP doesn't look as horsey faced in person and her hair was blown out straight. Grand Sichuan has the BEST pork dumplings in NYC.
(2/22) - 111 Centre Street - jury summons. The clerk was announcing our last day of waiting and he and another official would call out our names to pick up our slips saying we'd served jury duty. I asked a random lady if the seat next to hers was free and as I passed her to sit down I stepped on her boot. I apologized. I'm not sure if she heard me; she just dusted her boot off. Then the clerk announced "Anna Sui" and she stood up and that's when I turned my head and recognized the bangs, bob hair cut, the all layered-black outfit including black bag and boots! I wanted to follow after her but had to wait for my name to be called. She just simply picked up her papers and walked out. No one noticed her because two people were calling out names quickly and people were rushing to the front; plus they pronounced her name "Anna Soo" and if you had never seen Anna Sui, you probably wouldn't have put the two together!
thursday, feb 23rd. was standing in line to return some jeans at the levi's store on broadway and spring when i noticed a beautiful, petite young woman talking with the salespeople. she looked a bit timid and shy meanwhile exuding the whole "is anyone looking at me" vibe which made me think it was a celeb. after a couple seconds of staring i realized it was winona ryder. sans make up, she is even more gorgeous in person. no diva either- the salespeople were raving about how nice and sweet she was.
Spotted: Matt Dillon walking north on Second Avenue in front of Ko Sushi. He was wearing a hideous orange north face jacket that looked like it was donated to him by a shelter. To complete the look I guess, hiis hair looked like he just woke up after a 2 week nap. My friends and I wouldn't have so much as blinked at him if he wasn't "Matt Dillon". (He, of course, ignored our gawker stares.)
Saw Uma Thurman today on 18th between 5th and 6th, amazonian tall, flawless skin sans any makeup, lithe, beautiful, wavy blonde hair flowing behind her as she walked quickly with a medium height and average looking girl/woman. As we walked by, my husband said to me, "Uma Thurman is now on my list."
thurs night at maxwells in hoboken, nj russell simmins (blues explosion) was hanging with sammy james (mooney suzuki) and johnny knoxville of jackass fame for the yeah, yeah yeahs show. knoxville, who was wearing a white shirt and black tie, was spotted wiping the forehead of a beautiful black haired goddess with numerous tattoos running up and down her arms. knoxville looked better than he does on TV, but this lady looked so much better.
saw and spoke with julianne moore in the luggage department on the 9th floor at macys herald square early thursday afternoon...she selected 4 or 5 red carry on type bags..i told her i was a huge fan of hers and lived in the union square area but never have seen her before...i was doing my best to not sound like a stalker...she said she lived a little further west near hudson, which i knew...she shook my hand and was very friendly and thanked me ...she looked great...amazing skin she has.
For some reason, Mister Dirty Dancing Himself, Patrick Swayze, was in the lobby of my building on E 42nd Street. I brushed past him briefly while walking in, and not 5 seconds afterward there were women literally lining up for autpgraphs from his short, old self. Weird. I wonder how many people shout NOBODY PUTS BABY IN A CORNER when they see him.
Just saw philip seymour hoffman at Le Singe Vert in Chelsea. He said that he made a pact with someone that if he won the Oscar he had to bark during his acceptance speech. And then he barked, for like 3 minutes straight.
I have been to Chelsea's Frederich Petzel Gallery all of twice, and both times I have been there, Kim Gordon has walked in. Most recently, I saw her there Thursday night at the Wade Guyton opening. She was wearing a blurry plaid coat (like that type of blurry plaid so popular in the early 90s?) and had a white quilted leather bag. No Thurston.
