George Michael Can't Hold On To His Freedom
In another gripping chapter in the ongoing and addictive serial drama Gay British 80s Pop Stars Getting Arrested In Really Stupid, Embarrassing and Easily Avoidable Situations, George Michael was arrested for drug possession after he was found passed out and slumped over the wheel of his car in the early morning hours on a London street. Michael then released a statement taking responsibility for the arrest, if remaining a little vague about just what drug he was caught with:
"I was in possession of class C drugs which is an offense and I have no complaints about the police who were professional throughout," Michael — who rose to fame as half of the 1980s pop duo Wham! — said today in a statement.
Class C drugs, the lowest category of illegal drugs, include marijuana, anabolic steroids and some amphetamines."I have been through enough in 24 years of dealing with the media to know what I am in for from them this week," Michael's statement said. "Much of it will be inaccurate or simply untrue. I can handle that, it is my own stupid fault, as usual."
This marks another unwanted return to the public's radar for the once-superstar Michael, with his 1998 lewd conduct arrest in a Beverly Hills public restroom arguably his last greatest hit. Sadly, he continues to tread the darker, dangerous paths forsaken by peer Elton John, who managed to find camera-friendly happiness by selling his soul over to a life of family-friendly Disney musicals and American Idol appearances
