Anatomy of a Page Six Correction
Say what you will about Page Six, but they are the masters of correcting themselves without actually correcting a thing. From today's column, an interesting sleight of pen:
THE fashion world is confused by Tommy Hilfiger and his tall blondes. For years, the fashion designer dated Lizzie Somerby , who was sometimes identified as his fianc e. They secretly split in March. Suddenly there was a new blonde on Hilfiger's arm who looks so much like Somerby, she's sometimes misidentified in photo captions. Tommy's new girlfriend, who met him in Monte Carlo, is Dee Ocleppo, 39 (above, left). She was with him at The Plumm the night Axl Rose tried to move her drink, sparking a brawl with Tommy. Ocleppo also accompanied him to the Costume Institute gala, to the Cannes Film Festival, and to Monday's Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards.
Interestingly, if you do a LexisNexis search for "Lizzie Somerby," the only time her name comes up in the last three months is for a May 24 photo caption from the Page Six story about Hilfiger's fight with Axl Rose:
GRAPHIC: FAR AWAY FROM FISTICUFFS WITH AXL ROSE, TOMMY HILFIGER COZIES UP TO GAL PAL LIZZIE SOMERBY IN CANNES YESTERDAY.
And voila! A non-correction correction.
