Just your brief, weekly reminder that your online diary is always worth a small advance, courtesy of Publisher's Lunch:

From the blogger of waiterrant.net WAITER RANT, an insider's look at a waiter's life at an upscale New York area restaurant — dubbed Kitchen Confidential at the front of the house, to Emily Takoudes at Ecco, in a pre-empt, by Farley Chase at the Waxman Literary Agency (NA).

OK, so you've never even heard of WaiterRant (or, alas, we haven't). Does it matter? It's a blog, it must be a book. If you're hankering for your piece of the diluted pie, they'll be giving away deals at all Starbucks today from 1-3 PM.

WaiterRant has had a huge readership for some time now. It's true that his dialogue is kind of awkward and his writing needs some help, many of his stories are very compelling — much more so than the writing of many bloggers with book deals out there. With some firm editing assistance he could produce a pretty good book.

is the blog book deal giveaway negro-inclusive? or is that at 1-3 AM? Or next year.

Stories from any restaurant are compelling:

Everybody is fucking each other, the staff inevitably hates the clientele, the bartenders get regular blow jobs from cougars in the walk-in fridge (but really, who doesn't?) and the managers are usually robbing the owners blind.

Nevertheless, the above comments hold true. The writing on that site sucks.
