According to police, two Brooklyn elementary school students, ages 9 and 12, were charged with reckless endangerment and assault after being accused of putting rat poison in their teacher's water bottle.

The students attend Public School 315 in Flatbush and allegedly poisoned the teacher, who drank from the water bottle and is recovering after seeking medical care, Monday. The two were reported by a parent of another student who said they witnessed the alleged poisoning.

"My understanding is the 9-year-old wanted to see what the reaction would be," police commissioner William. J. Bratton told the New York Times. "God knows where kids get these ideas."
