While I found the article to be rather absurd, I've found the comments on here to be more so. Is this Gawker Utah or something? Since when are the only women who have nannies stay at home spa and yoga freaks? This is NYC; plenty of moms have to work and yeah, also worry about their kids while they are doing so.

There are a fair number of commentators on here saying mommy should stay home if she's going to have kids. These are the same commentators who were feisty feminists over the Forbes "article" and the Details "fatties we love (to mock)" slideshow.

I didn't realize that once I decided to use my uterus I had to become June Cleaver and give up any notion of having a career. Thanks for keeping up to date with the modern world!

don't hate the nanny, hate the parent. any parent who'd have a nanny raise the kid is likely lazy enough that the kid would grow up chunky anyway.

to look on the bright side, maybe the kid'll develop an actual work ethic. that's something they'd never get from the parent.

...but then they'll wind up making a living working the fields, sewing garments, and helping people move... our entire immigrant-based economy will collapse! moral of the story: when parents hire nannies, the terrorists win.

Seriously, who is the Times after? Are these nanny-having, fat-hating, can't-take-care-of-their-own-kids parents actually the norm? Because that's certainly the impression I'm getting from their coverage of "families." I sure fucking hope not, because these children are going to be horrible adults.

There's lots of room between having a parent who stays at home, and having a parent who has a full-time nanny and regards her kid as a pet or accessory.

Seriously, if they'd let these nannies take the kids back to Zamboanga or wherever, the kids wouldn't be fat; its' the fact they're in New York that makes them fat. When I was in Indonesia and the Phillippines I ate three fried meals a day plus two snacks, plus drinks every evening and I lost ten pounds.

But then, if they went back to hiring Irish and French nannies, there's every chance they'd have to declare them and pay them a living wage...Priorities, priorities.
