Today's Moment comes from a recent Times report on the plight of the abalone in South Africa. It seems gastropod poaching has become something of an epidemic in southern Africa, depleting the species. Michael Wines describes one poacher:

Standing on the beach in his wetsuit, beside a beat-up sedan with more rust than Joe Namath's throwing arm, he paints a convincing portrait of destitution.

And that paints a convincing portrait of rust!
