The Times, which has been pooping out blogs with the celerity of a contestant in a speed-shitting contest, farts out a new one today. It's The Lede, and here's what it's about:

In the news business, the opening sentences of a story are referred to as its "lede" — spelled that way, journalism lore has it, to avoid confusion with the lead typesetting that once dominated newspaper printing presses. Although a tightly focused narrative typically follows the lede, every sentence in a news story has the potential to spiral off in new directions, and each paragraph leaves behind unexplored angles. That's where The Lede's mission begins.

We'd make the obvious joke that, you know, maybe that should be the paper's mission, but we want to be generous: We actually enjoy most of the Times blogs, even Bruni's, and particularly the one where David Carr goes crazy in the streets. It's a little early to render any judgment on the newbie, but we're thus far pleasantly surprised. See for yourself.
