As we mentioned, we read Star for its incisive "Look Who's Fat Now!" pictorials, not for its words. But our eyes inadvertently grazed a sentence in this week's issue — and you know what? It resonated with us:

The film has the brittle, chilly feel of modern literature, where people are supposed to feel bad about themselves and are slapped down when they try to find a way to feel good.

A tiny bit reductive, sure, but pretty much dead-on, and actually, the reason we were reading Star instead of, you know, a book.
