So your debut memoir was a huge sleeper hit because it had an adowwable labrador retriever on the cover. But what do you do for a follow up? It's not like you can go out and get another pet that will misbehave, unite your family, and then [SPOILER!] die in tearjerking fashion. Well, if you're savvy businessman-author John Grogan, you find ways to extend your brand without ever coming up with any new ideas.

Not only is there a special "gift edition" of the original book with "a beautiful cloth cover" and "a unique dog leash bookmark ribbon" available for only $29.95, but this month, HarperCollins will release two children's books about that lovable scamp Marley.

Bad Dog, Marley! is an illustrated picture book for the rugrats, while Marley is the original book, "faithfully adapted" (one would certainly hope so!) by the author himself for young readers. While it sure is charming that John wants to get his message of cuteness and dog-loving across to as many people as possible, we wonder whether these shameless attempts to milk the last drops of profit out of the damn thing dampen the book's heartwarmingness somewhat. Can't the dude just get a goldfish or something? He could totally get a funny, wry, homespun life'n'death story arc out of one of those in about a week and have something new on shelves by Xmas.
