Hacker of the year arrested, gets apartment ransacked
Let this be a lesson for the youngsters. Hack into classified government emails and then post account logins and passwords for public consumption, and you might get your apartment trashed. That's what happened to Sweden's Dan Egerstad, so-called "hacker of the year."
According to reports, in August Egerstad gained access to 1,000 email accounts at embassies around the world. He contacted the governments in question to alert them of the vulnerability. But he didn't hear back right away. So he posted a sampling of the data online. Well, he's heard back now. The Swedish National Crime and Swedish Security Police agencies paid a visit to his aprtment.
"They broke my wardrobe, short cutted my electricity, pulled out my speakers, phone and other cables having nothing to do with this and been touching my bookkeeping, which they have no right to do," Egerstad told the Sydney Morning Herald.
