Whoops! Spitzer ain't the only john to be caught up in a prostitution ring... but a classy one. We provide a very brief, very incomplete history of so-called high-class organizations offering the services of paid girls.

The most recent prostitution scandal starred Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the so-called "D.C. Madam." She claimed that the women working for her offered legal services only, like massage and companionship. Naturally! Her meticulous recordkeeping (46 pounds of phone records) scared the hell out of Washington movers and shakers, implicating Louisiana Senator David Vitter, Ambassador Randall L. Tobias from the State Department, and Harlan Ullman (senior associate with the Centre for Strategic and International and possible coiner the phrase "shock and awe.")

">Jody "Babydol" Gibson. Operating out of Hollywood, her 2007 autobiography Secrets of a Hollywood Super Madam claimed that Ben Affleck, Bruce Willis, Jim Belushi, Gary Busey, and Dodgers manager Tommy LaSorda as clients. (All men denied her allegations.) She operated her call-girl service in 16 states and Europe and charged between $500 to $3,000. She served 22 months before writing her book, and got beaten up in jail.

In 2007, a Lebanese pimp was busted for running a group of working gals in Cannes. Expensive ones, operating in "yachts and luxury hotel rooms!"

Mayflower Madam. In her 1987 book, Mayflower Madam: the Secret Life of Sydney Biddle Barrows, Barrows talks about the rise and fall of her Cachet agency, operating in New York City in the early eighties. Candace Bergen starred in the movie.

Heidi Fleiss. The Hollywood Madam of the 1980s had many famous and wealthy clients, including Charlie Sheen. However: tax evasion did not keep things classy. She might be roughin' it white-trash style in Nevada these days, running her own Laundromat and living with about a million pet parrots, but there's hope: she keeps threatening to open an all-male bawdy house.

We're sure we're missing a few others. Thousands of others!
