Yesterday, the Observer shared the news that former Fashion Week Daily reporter Jim Shi had landed a gig at Marie Claire, where he would be "covering Fashion Week shows and working on a new fashion news page on the Marie Claire website." The official response from the magazine was curiously tepid: "He is working on a limited amount of freelance for Marie Claire on the website only, on a trial basis," a spokesperson told the paper. Limited amount? Freelance? Trial basis? That sure doesn't sound like the job description Shi sent out to his colleagues in a mass email. Shi's grand plans to take over a section of the magazine, start a new blog, and coordinate his Fashion Week schedule in concert with Nina Garcia after the jump.

Greetings!

I hope this email finds you well.

I am happy to let you know that I will be covering the upcoming round of New York shows and events for Marie Claire magazine.

I will be overseeing and editing a new front-of-book news section in the magazine centered around first and foremost fashion, but also including other relevant areas including, but not limited to, lifestyle, entertainment, and celebrity (in essence, I will be assuming the newly-formed duties of a fashion news & features director, a position the magazine has not had in the past).

In addition, I will also be working on fashion features for the magazine. I would greatly appreciate if you could forward this email to your colleagues, some of whom may be new and I may not know, so that they will have my contact information to pitch me stories, new products, and keep me in the loop for events relevant to my sections.

Also, it would be great if you would add my email address to your contact list for media alerts, celebrity dressing, press releases, etc.

Additionally, I will be given a column on the Marie Claire Web site in which I will be blogging on everything from products to event coverage to fashion features. I will start this blog covering Fashion Week. The blog will be updated daily, if not several times a day, where I will be reporting directly from the shows and events happening during Fashion Week. The Marie Claire Web site currently enjoys over 3.5 million unique page views each month.

Below is the current best address and contact # to send all invitations and to reach me at for the time being:

**It would be greatly appreciated if you could take a moment to reply to this email to let me know what shows/events you are working on both occuring during Fashion Week and in the days leading up to it. I am currently coordinating my schedule with fashion director Nina Garcia and the rest of the Marie Claire fashion team.

If this email reaches you and you represent just one house, then please consider this my ticket request for your respective show.

Feel free to email/call me should you have further questions.

Thanks for your assistance!
