Social Networking For Socialites
BusinessWeek conducted a little investigation recently and discovered that while a number of prominent CEOs have joined social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn over the past few years, very few had managed to make many friends. What about New York's population of socialites and do-nothing fameseekers? Naturally, they have no trouble making friends when it comes to Facebook. But that isn't the case with business-centric LinkedIn, where many of them lead lonely online existences and—worst of all—they've been forced to actually fill something in under the headers "job title" and "employer." How can you possibly be expected to have either if you spend your days sleeping and your evenings out at parties? A few examples—including Annabel Vartanian and Alex McCord (left)—after the jump.
Presumably "publishing heiress" wasn't quite as appropriate for a business networking site like LinkedIn, so Amanda Hearst went with "publishing professional" instead. Well done. And it's nice to hear she's open to "new ventures" and "expertise requests." If you need someone to pose in ads for your new brand of bottled water, or you need advice on what to wear to an upcoming gala, now you know who to call!
Tinsley Mortimer only has one connection, sure. But we're sure it's a really good connection, okay?
Annabel Vartanian seems to have coined a new term for unemployed social scenesters who want to be actresses, but have yet to land a part in any films or TV shows: "Independent Performing Arts Professional." Make a note of it!
That Kelly Bensimon is suggesting that she graduated from Columbia in 1998 sure is a clever move. If you didn't know that she went back to school to complete her degree at the Columbia School of Continuing Education, you might think she's, like, 33! But what's with not capitalizing the "K" in Killoren? Clearly the name hasn't been nearly as useful as "Bensimon" (thanks, Gilles!), but let's not be so obvious about it, okay?
Speaking of unemployed "Real Housewives," Alex McCord will have you know that she's not just an actress. She's Alex McCord, an actress at Alex McCord, so it looks like she's set up her very own studio or production company, too. Nicely done. But who's her one connection? We're going to take a wild guess and assume it's this guy.
