Wanda Sykes will perform at this year's White House correspondents dinner, the first (we think) openly gay person to headline the 89-year-old event. Change.

Unfortunately the White House Correspondents Association event should be as clubby as ever, the press corps eagerly sucking up to the administration it's supposed to be hounding so it can keep doling out tickets to a black-tie event involving the president.

Sykes should be fun though. Did you know she worked for the NSA for five years? Yup. Also: DC native. So hopefully some all-too-rare jokes about the federal bureaucracy and the District. More importantly, she's worked in the stand-up comedy trenches more recently than predecessors Craig Ferguson, Stephen Colbert and the ancient Rich Little. Which means she's likely to focus her energy on entertaining the crowd instead of insulting it.
