These memos went out to Newspaper Guild members this afternoon. They want members to take a survey on the NYT's proposed pay cuts—but they left out the survey. As one tipster says, "Not confidence inspiring."

NY GUILD SURVEY
ON PROPOSED PAY CUT

The Guild has prepared a survey for members at The Times and Times Digital
to express their opinions on management's proposed 5 percent pay cut
(combined with 10 additional paid days off).

When Times managers announced the pay-cut proposal on March 26, they said
they would consider alternative cost-saving measures from the Guild. On
April 1, the Unit Council of The Times and Times Digital unanimously
endorsed efforts by the Guild to explore other options that would satisfy
the company's goal of saving $4.5 million "in a manner that would inflict
the least pain on Guild members."

Guild officers and staff have been doing just that. Some of alternative
cost-savings measures are included on the survey. Some are still being
developed.

What matters most to the way we respond to management is your opinion.
Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and opinions with us.
This survey will be available only through NoonEDT on Monday, April 20.

Subject: Problem with Guild Survey
To: NEWSPAPER GUILD

The Guild has been made aware that there is a problem with accessing the
survey on the News side (including NYT Digital) at The Times. For some
reason, The Times' e-mail system has stripped out the link to the survey.
On the business side, it seems to be working properly.

The Guild is working with management to correct the problem, and we will
re-issue the survey if necessary.

The survey can only be answered once per employee...so sending it
again should not skew the results.

Please bear with us while we get this glitch resolved. There is no need
to contact us in the meantime.

Thanks.
