Is Nic Cage just toying with us? Is his life just one gigantic practical joke on the moviegoing public? The first official trailer for The Sorcerer's Apprentice simply reaffirms how awful he is.

The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call: New Orleans—Nic Cage's most recent film—was phenomenal. The reviews were almost unanimously great, too. He put on a raw performance playing a troubled, drug addled cop, and showed juuuust enough restraint to keep from going overboard. Naturally, he follows that up by growing out his hair (again!) and mailing it in for The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Nicolas Cage is officially the Hollywood embodiment of the rope-a-dope. And we fell for it. Again. Although the effects do look cool.

How could we possibly think Nic Cage could make two good films in a row? Here are his last four critically acclaimed movies, as well as their follow-ups. The movies range from good to great, the follow-ups range from bad to horrible:

· Wild at Heart was followed by Zandalee

· Leaving Las Vegas was followed by The Rock.

· Adaptation was followed by Matchstick Men.

· Bringing Out the Dead was followed by Gone in 60 Seconds.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that this trend will not be broken.
