Vidal has always been attracted to certain conspiracy theories. After 9/11 he continued to be fond of conspiracy theories. Meanwhile, after 9/11, Hitch became a crazed, bloodthirsty jingoist who bore no resemblance to his former self, except in habits of consumption. Now, a few years later, Hitch has calmed down, slightly, and he finds his former hero wanting.
