Every day we pick a comment for special recognition — for its wit, its insight, or its emotion. While there were many good political comments today, we've had enough of that awful mess. So let's talk about celebrities! And dreams.

In Valerie Bertinelli's Scientific Credentials Called Into Question this morning, the mediatrix recounted a little story from high school that was lovely and haunting and sad, like any memory (especially a memory of a dream!) is sad:

When we were in high school, my friend R had an awesome dream about her:

We were in a car, and he was driving. I was in the passenger seat, telling a story. But he had to keep bending down to work the pedals with his hands, and couldn't keep track of my story or where the car was headed.

At some point, he raised up and it had gotten dark. We skidded to a stop in the middle of some strange darkened warehouse district, and at a dead end. Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen were standing in the street, just front of the car, illuminated by the headlights. R got out and walked up to them.

"Where are we," he asked.

They laughed derisively and said: "You're at the end of Danger Road."

Shudder, right?
