Exit 57: Down In the Basement
Exit 57 aired on Comedy Central for one season starting in 1995 and was never heard from again. It starred Paul Dinello, Amy Sedaris, and Stephen Colbert, who all later went on to create the cult classic Strangers With Candy.
Of course Colbert went on to pursue heaps of other great comedic endeavors. Unfortunately this show isn't on DVD and there are only a few sketches on YouTube, which makes it hard to get a full grasp of its true comedic essence (that sounded so pretentious). From the sketches that are available online, especially this one, you can definitely tell that Paul, Amy, Stephen, and the rest of the cast loved to create comedy that most importantly made themselves laugh. You have to love their total disregard for easy, crowd-pleasing comedy... or maybe you like MadTV, who knows?
