"as she prepares to gears [sic] up to pass health care reform"
That's probably a typo, but it seems so indicative of this process. They have been preparing to gear up, to reconsider contemplating a vote on health care for fucking ever. Quit it with the stupid photo ops, Nancy and actually pass the thing. Ugh, I'm so tired of this.
From a clear-headed commenter over at my facebook page:
"This bill is worse than the status quo. It is a huge giveaway to insurance companies. It just forces 30 million more people to buy a crummy product they can't afford. Without the public option, there is nothing to keep the costs down. With premiums rising at four times the rate of inflation, soon everyone will have what they call a Cadillac plan and will then pay even more for health care because of the tax on Cadillac plans. Even the fines for denying people with pre-existing conditions are only $100 a day. If an operation for a cancer patient costs $100,000 not to mention the on going costs of care and the fines are $36,500 a year, do the math and see which one they'll choose. To use the odious Sarah Palin's phrase, the Dems are trying to put lipstick on a pig by calling this health care "reform." Obama and the Progressives totally let us down here. And their caving on the public option shows that Rahm Emmanuel was right: the Dems don't have to listen to the Progressive wing of the party because they will cave every time. Watch what happens with climate control and financial industry regulations. They are just as beholden to the corporate interests as the GOP. We need campaign finance reform in this country to make all other reforms possible. For more info, read Jane Hamsher's latest article in the Huffington Post on the myths about the bill. @Uncle_Billy_Slumming: Pretty much when the 'public option' got nixed there was little to be excited about, but to totally do away with the bill at large would've been a pretty brutal political defeat, so we're just celebrating no looking like total failures today, though we may not really be accomplishing anything that can be deemed 'awesome'. Not looking like a failure is fun though, I guess.
They should pass a law that says any time a Republican buys eyeglasses, this image should be taped on the inside of the lenses.
