Since Damages started airing on the FX Network, it's always had a fun—and creative—time playing with viewer expectations. Now, the series is taking the bold step of having an in-show character recreate the first season as a film.

After losing his case to Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and almost dying in the show's first season, Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson) is now looking for redemption (and some cash). In this clip, Frobisher tells Hewes he's producing a film surrounding the events of his trial. But instead of making himself the hero, Frobisher tells Hewes he'd like to make her the film's protagonist.

Film-within-a-film has always been a difficult movie genre to tackle, and things are no different for television. When a show becomes too self-referential, it often loses its focus on the main narrative. Hopefully, the writers know what they're doing and don't take Damages in a cheesy, meta direction.
