Beltran is the soft-spoken, massively salaried centerfielder who spent some of his most productive years with the New York Mets. He's since had stints on the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Beltran was drafted to the Kansas City Royals in 1995 but made his Major League debut in 1998. His career picked up steam the next year when he won the Rookie of the Year Award. After a few seasons of injuries and sluggish starts, Beltran played briefly for the Houston Astros before coming to New York on the Mets with the largest Mets' salary in franchise history, $119 million for seven years. He lived up to his pay day, tying the Mets' single year home run record in 2005 and winning three straight Gold Gloves from 2006-8. Yet pesky injuries took him away from most of the 2010 season, and fairweather Mets fans were nonplussed to see him traded to the San Francisco Giants and then again to the St. Louis Cardinals. Although he's not quite the outfielder he once was, he's still an impressive hitter, surpassing the 2,000 hit mark in 2012. [Image via Getty]
