Who

One of New York's veteran interior designers, Gomez has styled homes for New York notables for more than three decades.

Backstory

Gomez says her first design project was creating the décor for her Michigan high school prom. She went on to attend RISD and the New York School of Interior Design before landing her first job in interiors working with the late, great architect Edward Durrell Stone. A gig at the powerhouse firm Parish-Hadley followed, where she worked under famed designers Sister Parish and Albert Hadley, and in 1977, she went out on her own to launch Gomez Associates. She's since become known for her serene, beige-filled rooms.

Of note

The "Dean of American Design" according to Architectural Digest, Gomez's client list includes entertainment types like Harrison Ford, director Ivan Reitman, and former NBC exec Scott Sassa, as well as fashion execs like Susan Sokol, the president of Vera Wang. She's especially popular in finance circles: Former SEC chairman Arthur Levitt, Arthur Carter (Levitt's former business partner), and Peter Lynch have all hired her design their homes. While the vast majority of her commissions are residential, former Goldman Sachs honcho Bob Mnuchin hired her to design the Mayflower Inn, his luxe hotel/spa in bucolic Washington, Connecticut. And she was responsible for redesigning the St. Regis Hotel on East 55th Street a number of years ago. In 2001, she opened her own retail shop on East 74th Street, which sells antiques, rugs, mirrors and her own line of furniture. She also has a licensing contract with Hickory Chair, through which she sells beds, armoires, and other household pieces.

In print

In 2003, Gomez published Rooms: Creating Luxurious, Livable Spaces.
