David Granger
Granger has been the editor-in-chief of Esquire, the men's magazine published by Hearst, since 1997.
A University of Tennessee undergrad, Granger earned his masters in English from the University of Virginia and held numerous titles at a slew of titles during his early years in magazine publishing. An editor at Sport Magazine and Family Weekly, Granger helped launch The National Sports Daily, Sports Inc., and Sports Business Weekly. He moved out of the sporting world as an executive editor at Adweek and Mediaweek before becoming an executive editor at Condé Nast's GQ in the early 90s. In 1997, however, he became editor in chief at rival Hearst's men's monthly Esquire. During his tenure with the magazine, Esquire has entered one of its most successful eras, earning over 50 National Magazine Award nominations and winning over a dozen and successfully branching out into digital publishing, winning the first ever National Magazine Award for mobile editions. Granger's groundbreaking leadership has garnered him a few accolades of his own, such as a multi-year "Editor of the Year" title holder from Advertising Age and Adweek and the winner of the Missouri Honor Medal for his contributions to journalism.
