Demetri Martin
Mop-topped Martin is a stand-up comedian and regular on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He also had his own show on Comedy Central, Important Things with Demetri Martin, which fizzled after two seasons.
Martin was born in New York in 1973 and grew up in Toms River, New Jersey. He graduated from Yale and went to law school at NYU, but ditched courtrooms for comedy and, in 2001, made his first TV appearance on Comedy Central's stand-up showcase, Premium Blend. He wrote for Late Night with Conan O'Brien for a year, hosted his own Comedy Central stand-up special, and, since 2005, began writing for The Daily Show. He appeared in front of the cameras the same year, as the show's "Senior Youth Correspondent," during which he'd talk about the current trends running rampant among youths (the fact that he was only a decade younger than Stewart was ignored). He appeared in a few music videos and on Flight of the Conchords before a highly successful year in 2009: his show, Important Things with Demetri Martin, debuted and he landed the lead in Taking Woodstock, directed by Ang Lee.
In 2011 Martin published This is a Book by Demetri Martin, which, believe it or not, was a book. [Image via AP]
