A legendary fashion photographer, Gilles Bensimon is perhaps best known for his longtime tenure as international creative director at Elle and for rolling off Tyra Banks' tongue as part of the prize package of America's Next Top Model.

Born in Paris, Bensimon joined the established French Elle in 1967 and soon after was asked to help launch the mag in the United States. A photographer for the magazine at the height of America's supermodel era, he has snapped the likes of Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, and of course, Ms. Tyra, which led him to his brief role on early cycles of ANTM. Not to be outdone, he was even married top model Elle Macpherson from 1985-1989. As the rag trade has gotten more celeb-focused, Bensimon has added Beyoncé, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Jennifer Lopez to his portfolio. However, with an executive switch up at Elle in 2007, Bensimon was replaced by the social-media savvy Joe Zee. Yet Bensimon is not at a loss for work, shooting spreads for every top magazine and advertisements for Saks Fifth Avenue, Clarins, and Maybelline. [Image via Getty]
