Kelis
Kelis Rogers, better recognized mononymously by her first name, is known for having a milkshake that brings all the boys to the yard, and not much else.
The daughter of a black minister, Kelis was born in 1979 and raised primarily by her Puerto Rican-Chinese mom. She left home at the age of 16 and was introduced to producing duo, The Neptunes, who helped her land a record deal. She began and finished recording her debut album, Kaleidoscope, in 1998; it didn't see mainstream success in the U.S., but the Brits were into it and it did well in England. After the relative failure of Kaleidoscope and her second album, Wanderland, Kelis finally found fame with 2003's Tasty and its first single, "Milkshake." Following the release of "Milkshake," Kelis' success in the U.S. flat-lined once again, though Europeans and Australians continued to buy her albums. Since the international success of Tasty, Kelis has released three other albums including, oddly enough, a collection of greatest hits.
Kelis met rapper Nas at an MTV VMA party in 2002; they began dating and were engaged in 2004. They married a year later, but in 2009, Kelis, who was seven-months pregnant, filed for divorce. [Image via Getty]
