A multi-CFDA award winner, Costa is the women's creative director for Calvin Klein.

Born in Brazil, Costa's interest in fashion was piqued by his mother who owned a children's clothing factory. After her death in the early 80s, Costa moved to New York even though he could not speak a word of English. He took English language classes at Hunter and began taking design classes FIT and got his break in the industry working for Herbert Rounick, whose company made dresses for the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Bill Blass. Costa joined de la Renta full time in the mid-90s, and after a collaboration with Tom Ford at Gucci, he was named the principal designer for Calvin Klein's women's collection in 2003. Even though he's had to maintain the un-fussiness that is synonymous with Calvin Klein, Costa has amped up the label with more color, and fans of his look can't be afraid to show a little bit of skin: Costa loves incorporating lingerie-esque construction into his designs.
