Have You Met the Crazy, Scientology-Sympathizing Nevada Republican Senate Candidate?
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D - NV) is fighting a tough re-election campaign against former Nevada Assemblywoman Sharron Angle. "Tough," partly because he has high unfavorables. And partly because Sharron Angle keeps doing things like encouraging his assassination.
Yes, that's right: Sharron Angle, Republican candidate for Senate in the great state of Nevada ("All for Our Country"), told conservative talk radio host Lars Larson that "people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies and saying, 'My goodness what can we do to turn this country around?' And I'll tell you the first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out."
Whatever could she have meant by that? "I meant take him out of office, and taking him out of office is a little different," she later clarified. "I changed my rhetoric." Of course! She must have confused herself, because the Second Amendment concerns the right of the people to bear arms, while voting people out of office is covered in the Fifteenth Amendment. Not that she's not right: Not voting for a candidate is, indeed, "a little different" than murdering him with a gun.
And wouldn't you know? Former Assemblywoman Angle, the official candidate of the Tea Party Express, has strong views on a multitude of other, non-assassinating-Harry-Reid-type issues, such as:
Abortion: Angle believes abortion should be illegal, due to God. Asked if she believes that there should be exceptions in cases of rape and incest, she told radio host Bill Manders, "God has a plan and a purpose for each one of our lives and that he can intercede in all kinds of situations and we need to have a little faith in many things." So for example, if God's plan is that you get raped, His plan is also that you keep your baby. Just have a little faith!
Unemployment: Nevada currently leads the nation in unemployment. Who gives a shit, though? Not Sharron Angle! Sharron Angle's position on the unemployed is that they are "spoiled," and Senators are "not in the business of creating jobs." She later clarified that what she really meant was that welfare "has spoiled our citizenry" and that "the system of entitlement has caused us to have a spoilage with our ability to go out and get a job," which is just, bravo, for using the word "spoilage."
Scientology: Sharron Angle believes that L. Ron Hubbard had the answers when it comes to curing addiction, and supports the "natural homeopathic medicine" he "developed" to deal with prison addicts. But it's not Scientology! It's just a psychiatry alternative invented by L. Ron Hubbard.
The United Nations: That old thing? Why, to Sharron Angle, it's just "the umpire on fraudulent science such as global warming."
Don't get too attached to those positions, though! Angle launched a new website on Thursday that "softens" her positions mostly by "removing them entirely."
And don't get too attached to Sharron Angle, either. She and Harry Reid are neck-and-neck right now in the polls, but she's going to need a lot more money—Reid's got about ten times as much. Maybe she can check with the Church of Scientology?
